My experiences with Dr. Dokhanchi and his staff have all been very good. I was a patient for over 15 years prior to moving back to the east coast. Monica at front desk is excellent as is the hygienist Kathy. I agree with other reviews that say his approach is preventative, meaning if potential problems were seen, they were explained, shown to me and monitored in my regular cleanings and exams. If an issue needed to be addressed more urgently they would make recommendations, and assessments on how long it could safely be left untreated, respecting my finances and time. I got several teeth re-filled and sealed over the years as well as gum grafting procedures done by a periodontist colleague Dr. Smith who was also conservative and practical in her consultations and thorough, thoughtful and precise when the procedures were done. I never felt any of the work done over the years was unnecessary or a "money grab" and was done strictly for my dental health and to prevent bigger problems (and more $$) down the line. They would also work with me on breaking costs into payments when needed. They are professional, honest, kind and I recommend them!

The best you could ever ask for. Personable, accommodating and a master of his craft. I've been his patient for almost 15 years through good times and broken teeth- look no further.

I visited this place in 2020 and 2021. Few points I wanna share with anyone wishing to visit this place:1. Deep cleaning: long story short,  what they suggest as an urgent work is borderline a scam like any other dental office. On my first visit I was asked to go through a deep cleaning. When I asked further questions, the hygienist (Kathi/Kathy/...) mentioned the cost is fully covered by the insurance and EVERYONE must do it EVERY 2yrs. I was skeptical so I refused since I had it done just five months ago :)  She was quite adamant to sign me up till I brought up my previous deep cleaning then she backed off and never mentioned it again. I overheard the same conversation with another patient next door. Fair enough my friend visited the same week and told me the exact same story ... 2. Orthodontist referral : The office still keeps the paper records of appointments which is a bit strange to me. Having said that, I was referred to an orthodontist (Mana Jalali which is the doctor's wife) for a free consulting on a weekday at 4pm.I was called a day before my appointment as apparently someone had canceled his appointment and she wanted to get off work 30 minutes earlier.... I refused to move my spot due to other commitments. They called me few more times pressuring me to move my appointment which I did not appreciate. When the Doctor (Mana Jalali) showed up for the appointment, I could tell she already had an attitude. When I ask simple questions on the procedure and the cost, she snapped and mentioned I am wasting her time... (if she is the doctor you chose to meet one a months for the next two years, I only can wish you the best) 3. the dentist: The doctor (Poriya) was a professional and quite respectful. He suggested few major treatments that I thought they were not too unreasonable. More importantly, he never failed to mention that the decision is mine to make. I ended up doing few fillings and crown jobs. Still not confident if I necessarily needed it, but since did not have time to run it by another doctor I trusted the doctor.

This office was a real disappointment to me.  They were fine taking my money to do crown after crown but when it came to an emergency situation where I really needed help they were very difficult to work with, they made me get a Doctors note-in my haste to get the note I reached out to two of my doctors and ended up with two letters because both doctors responded: you know because it was an emergency? And then the dentist denied care. I could not believe it. This dentist said my oncologist would not be liable if I developed COVID that he would be and so he refused to treat.  Because I'm a cancer patient, I had a narrow window of time to get my tooth fixed before my next round of chemo so his not helping me caused me to have to wait 2 weeks in which time the problem will get worse likley an infection or a root canal will be the next issues because of the time he allowed to elapse through his surprisingly obvious lack of humanity.  I thought the ethics of his behavior were some of the worst I've seen in the health care field- actually-any professional field. They were fine taking my money when I was in remission and needed 3 or 4 crowns---wait, what? I do? weird, none of them had bothered me.  Well OK, I trust you (that was a mistake). But when it came to an emergency while I was in treatment  he refused to treat me even though I had the requested letters from UCSF and a second one Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC.  He kept talking about the American Dental association guidelines: like- REALLY?  I have to believe in this months long pandemic with no end in sight I'm not going to be the only cancer patient with a broken tooth. Really? there are 650,000 Americans receiving chemotherapy as I write this-- like, none of us are going to get emergency dental care? Gosh, I'm sorry my cancer doesn't put you in the best position Dr. Dolkhanchi but if you want to, let's trade and I'll be the dentist during covid and you can be the cancer patient during covid.  The dentist is constantly paranoid about liability, it's so weird, it comes up every visit in some way or other: how often does that happen in other dentist or medical offices that liability comes up every visit?  It always made me wonder if he'd been sued because it literally came up every visit, like their focus was not on my health but on their liability.  So much so that they would let a cancer patient risk infection.  I really wish I'd selected another dentist.  If you're looking for an overpriced dentist that seems to find work needed on teeth that never bothered you, then denies essential, time sensitive care because he doesn't love the (minimal) risk exposure and constantly talks about liability this is your guy. Oh, but you also have to be ok with all the support personnel being women and everyone having to refer to him as Doctor, so if you're into the patriarchy with a dash of narcissism, this is the place for you!
