Dr. Kole and his wife Melissa provide conventional chiropractic care as well as a spinal decompression program, along with "cold laser" treatments to enhance healing and recovery times. Based on my own observations, they serve an extremely wide range of clients, from people like myself with chronic back pain but who are still able to mostly function normally, to people with severe injuries, some of whom have had corrective surgery. Again based on my observations. they all find considerable relief from Dr. Kole's treatments.
In my own case, after undergoing a three-month program of spinal decompression at the clinic, I can honestly say that my lower back pain has been much reduced, though it has not been by any means eliminated, as I of course hoped it would be. However, Dr. Kole and I (and also myself and Melissa) had a discussion on the subject of "cures," and I came to realize that there are such things as realistic expectations.
I am now able to walk a little further each time I go out (from about 3/4 of a mile to over three miles in about three months), and I hope that by continuing this program of regular and gradually increasing exercise, I will continue to slowly strengthen my back as well as eventually be able to lose some of the weight I have gained after several years of relative inactivity, and to continually improve my general health as a result. Realistically speaking, I am forty pounds overweight and 64 going on 65, so it seems unlikely that I will ever run a half-marathon again, as I did in my mid-thirties. However, I have set returning to running shorter distances as a long-term goal, and the fact that my lower back never bothers me when I try to sleep like it did before spinal decompression is in itself a major improvement in my quality of life.
One of the best things about Dr. Kole is that he does not make exorbitant promises; he is relentlessly realistic about what any spinal treatment can accomplish. An expert on most if not all forms of non-surgical intervention for the spine, he has explained to me the probable benefits and drawbacks of things like acupuncture, prolotherapy, and of course spinal decompression. His explanations tallied exactly with what I have heard from orthopedic surgeons; not enough is understood about the spine to guarantee the effectiveness of any kind of treatment, and often surgery can have unexpected and unpleasant results. This is what any patient needs to know going into any therapeutic course of treatment; there are no cures and no guarantees. Nothing works perfectly for everyone, but spinal decompression is one of the best non-surgical interventions out there.
After considerable reflection, I can say that spinal decompression has helped me considerably, and I would certainly recommend Dr. Kole to anyone as a first-rate chiropractor and also an all-around nice guy, a down-to-earth regular person who likes to chat while he treats you, a real "danger" to him in my case because, as both he and Melissa have discovered, I really like to talk! Seriously, they are patient, kind, and tolerant folks, and their treatment plans are both affordable and highly effective. The bonus is that they are also fun people to get to know.
