Le Normandie

Recently, I've been spending a lot of time down in PG dealing with some difficult family matters. Le Normandie has been a fantastic break for me. The food is fantastic. Their French onion soup is different than what I'm used to, but quickly became my favorite. The soup has a fantastic broth to start with, and the cheese isn't only cooked over the top but there are little pieces throughout inside. Somehow the croutons still have a nice texture after being submersed in broth. I'm on a budget, so I go to Le Normandie Tuesdays and Wednesdays for their specials. The soup is included along with a (generous) glass of house wine and one of three main entrees. I've tried them all: the pork medallions, the pasta, and the half chicken. All were fantastic. The sauce for the pasta was terrific, the pork medallions were too. But the chicken was out of this world.
I forgot to mention the house bread too, normally that wouldn't be anything to write home (or the world on the interwebs) about, but I think they make it on site and it's fantabulus too. Nice and crunchy on the outside, steamy with just the right texture inside.
And oddly enough, this certainly isn't what I'd expect to be saying about a French restaurant in a touristy town in California. But I leave stuffed, slightly tipsy, and happy for an amazingly reasonable price.
