Hallmark Inn at UC Davis

Under construction, very loud, bed sucks amd they camt even give you free water for dealing the the construction noise.

Disappointing. We started out in the old wing where the construction noise on the floor above us ( note Easter Sunday 8:00 in the evening) was so bad they switched our room. The old wing is dated, but we love the hotel location So we return. The (smaller) room in the new wing was newly renovated, but cheaply and poor workmanship. ( chipped board covering window treatments, poorly installed wallpaper, no shower gel, and no grab rail in the shower. The fake tile had ragged unfinished edges. The final dissappointment was moldy English muffins in the breakfast room

1. The lights are rigged to a motion sensor and auto-timer, such that all of the overhead lights turn on when you move. So if you get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, your spouse and child are startled awake by a blaze of light. Who thought this would be a good idea? 2. If you cover the motion sensors with tape, the auto-timer lights will turn off while you're in the shower. It gets very dark. 3. The fridge in the room is contained in a cupboard with insufficient circulation air space, such that the cupboard gets hot and the fridge never gets cold. This is probably a fire hazard. 4. There is no bathtub, so you can't bathe your young children. 5. Guests are encouraged to live a laid-back California lifestyle, as there is no alarm clock... 6....which is fine, because complimentary breakfast is cancelled due to renovations. Plan on spending a bunch of extra money on breakfast in Davis. 7. Do not lock your bike to the racks right outside the hotel; mine was stolen.
