Shanghai Town

Authentically Chinese but overall bad. Reminds me of school cafeteria food I had when I studied abroad in Shanghai. Theres not a lot of flavor to anything. I was excited to try the shengjian bao but was disappointed when the dumplings were entirely fried instead of steamed. It might suffice for Chinese students who cant cook for themselves and want a cheap taste of home, but I dont see myself coming back.

Food is very.... Homemade? It's taste similar to when my mother makes a stirfry from left overs. The vegetables is still on the raw side, the meat is relatively well seasoned. We stumbled upon this little hole-in-the-wall Chinese place about twelve years ago. Not the prettiest place or the most desirable location but they do Shanghai food better than anyone else in the area. I cannot speak to their more American style dishes because we've not had them. They have a few very craveable dishes on their menu that we keep going back for. While we don't live in Davis, I'm always willing to drive for their lions head meatball soup. It is honestly the best I've had anywhere. It's the perfect cure for colds, flu, and the winter blues. Their clay pots are also amazing. I am an eggplant lover and their dish with pork and vermicelli noodles is amazing! You need to check out this charming family run place and specifically their Shanghai dishes. It's what they do best and are most proud of! We always find something new to love every time we go.
