Taj Mahal Pakistani & Indian Restaurant

This location has gone through at least two different ownerships. I liked it a lot when it was Bosphorous when they served that delicious Turkish buffet. For some reason this location just does not do it for the business. It's probably because there is too much traffic and it's near the freeway. People just don't bother to stop here. Plus parking around the area is bad. I don't expect Taj Mahal to last very long either. The Sunday night that I had dinner here the restaurant was quiet. Only one tablet was occupied. I ordered Chicken curry which had a good spiciness but it was overly sweetened. Every dish was well presented including the basmati rice which was fluffy and not dry. You also get a trip to the salad bar included with your dinner. The ingredients are one of the better I have seen in any Indian restaurant. However, I was a bit puzzled when I saw orange slices mixed in with the salad. They just didn't seem to belong there. The soup had a good flavor but a bit salty. At least it was better than "Favorite Indian Restaurant" in Hayward. I also ordered the vegetarian samosas. They are unique in that you get a portion of curried garbanzos in the center. That was yummy and not usually seen in any restaurant. However, the samosas just fell flat of flavor. All I tasted were potatoes. They really needed some curry. The service was acceptable. The waiter was courteous all throughout the dining experience. My only complaint was the little wine glass they use to serve water. You could just finish it in one gulp. The waiter never once came to refill my glass. Too simple to ignore. In my opinion the owners spent too much money on the decor and trying to make it look like an upscale Indian restaurant. They could have just left it the way it was and concentrate on improving the flavor of their dishes. Overall experience: 3 stars.
