I bought my bike at Performance two years ago. It was a pretty okay experience. People weren't overly helpful but I didn't have much of a problem. I even had Performance ship my bike back to Ohio when I moved. I paid around $100 for shipping and disassembly. All was good. I moved back to Berkeley in May and my parents shipped my bike back out here. I don't know much about bikes at all, so I preferred to have a shop assemble it. After calling Trek (down the street from where I live) and discovered they would charge $100 for assembly, I was pretty much prepared to buy the tools and figure it out myself. Which could have been an interesting project and luckily I have a brother who would be willing to help over the phone. I called Performance around noon on Saturday to get a price check for assembly as well. I didn't exactly remember but I thought they had free maintenance for my bike. The guy that answered put me on hold twice to "check with the guys". He came back and said that since the bike was bought from Performance the assembly would be free. So I ordered an Uber XL to fit the box since it's huge and took it to Performance on Sunday. When I took it in the main guy in bike maintenance asked who I talked to because they were wrong. Bike assembly would be $70 ($100 normally but he was cutting me a deal). He asked who I talked to and said I "must have talked to Patrick". (Apparently Patrick promises free bike assembly). And he could do nothing about it. I already paid a decent amount for the Uber so I agreed although I was pretty upset since $70 is a lot of money for me. I picked it up today and either the guy didn't remember me or was pretending but he didn't mention it at all and also the cashier was kinda rude as well. I'm not coming back to Performance after this since it seems like they don't have the best communication or value their customer loyalty.
