TROT is a wonderful ranch offering therapeutic riding and counseling services to the community. They are very careful in selecting and training the horses they rescue. Care and kindness are evident in every aspect of the ranch. So many of our children are troubled due to the disruption Covid-19 caused to their schooling and lives. More than ever, there is need for truly helpful counseling with intuitive, grounded, and skilled therapists. You will find these attributes among both the human and equine staff at TROT. Oh! I better not forget the feline member of the family, Luna! Ah, I said "family." And that's because TROT feels like a family. The staff are down to earth and excellent at what they do. Everything about the ranch says, "Welcome, be at your ease, we're here to help." And help they do! They not only help children, but veterans and first responders. People who serve all of us and bear scars both physical and mental from their service. Veterans can gather for free just to talk as they can talk to none but other vets. Yes, TROT feels like a family taking care of one another and those who most need the aid. I loved that we were able to take two tours, at no cost, before deciding to work with TROT. Those tours eased my mind as I was able to ask any question that popped into it (they tend to be plentiful and random!) with no sense that I was asking too much or being too scattered. My child was able to get a feel for the ranch and the person he would be working with. Horses can be intimidating at first, due to their size, if nothing else. Sometimes they argue and that is both a wonder and terror to witness! Staff don't allow these arguments to carry on and make use of the opportunities they present to relate it to the counseling they're performing. The ease with which they integrate the unpredictable is amazing to see. During our tour, we witnessed a spat through to resolution; the care that was taken convinced my child that this was the place for them. They often have a waiting list, but tours are free and there is always someone ready to make a convenient appointment for you. Most pediatric therapists have waiting lists, but none have the magical healing power of Equine Assisted Therapy that you'll find at TROT. It may not be for everyone, and I wasn't sure it was right for my child, but we tried it, and it was magical. There's something about connecting with an empathetic creature that works for my kiddo. If you think there's any chance it could work for yours, I encourage you to visit and get on the list. You may find an excellent therapist before TROT can call you - or you may be praying that TROT will call! There simply arent enough behavioral health providers for the demand in Tucson. Once your child is a client at TROT, they will have the full attention of the staff. I can't speak highly enough about TROT's Equine Therapy. Please, call and see what they can do for you. I know they will do all they can!
