Loved the old building and paintings inside. Food was wonderful and the margaritas were amazing and hand made by the owner who is a great person to talk to. Can hardly wait to try the green corn tamales we took home.

If this is, as some say, the best Mexican restaurant in Tucson, that's a sad statement for this town. I had high hopes for much better Mexican food here. The green corn Tamale was great. While I've read of similar Tamales existing in Mexico I've never found one in the US. It's certainly authentic. I really enjoyed it. Beyond that, the red enchilada sauce was watery and not very flavorful. The cheese enchiladas had too much yellow cheese on top. The cheese was overheated making it rubbery. Chopped green onions were served on top of the enchiladas also. I've seldom encountered green onion garnishing enchiladas in Mexico - usually white onion would be used. The chicken enchiladas were sauced and garnished the same as the cheese ones and the chicken filling was a bit dry. The rice was not an authentic Mexican flavor. The taste was a bit odd - reminiscent of Rice-A-Roni. There were a couple globs of crunchy burnt rice in mine where the rice had stuck to the pot and burned. No fresh jalapenos are available here (eg no toreados). They only have chopped pickled ones. This is a sure sign of inauthenticity. The service could only be described as lousy. After our server brought our food we never saw her again. Ten minutes after we finished our meal we finally saw another server clearing a table near ours and asked him to cash us out which he did. There is no acoustic treatment in this venue with hard plastered walls making it rather loud. I'm stll looking for an exceptional Mexican restaurant in Tucson. This isn't it. El Torero is very overrated.
