I almost never write reviews, but out of curiosity I read the reviews after I have had at least three procedures over several years at Desert Sun. I was taken aback at the negativity expressed in the reviews as I have had nothing but great service and care... Dr. Gottlieb solved a mysterious problem that I've had most of my life. His procedure changed my life to be so much better... my first experiences of going to Gastroenterology was in Sierra Vista, as I am from Bisbee it was a truly terrible experience... I have to drive 100 miles to see dr. Gottlieb at Desert Sun Gastroenterology but I'm ever so happy to do so...

1st impression is not pleasant. My husband just got medicare a few days ago and also has an overlap of BCBS for 1/2 month too. This place charged $250 "facility fee" - what in the world is that? And said that insurance won't pay it. Medicare or Blue Cross - They didn't give any advance notice - or even a receipt! Seems very dishonest - I can only hope that the medical procedure was at least done correctly.

I'm a very nervous patient and only go to a doctor when I absolutely have to, that being said, Dr. Gary Gottlieb and his MA Angela were absolutely wonderful during the initial appointment and then I had an Upper GI Endoscopy 2/20/18. Dr. Gottlieb has an excellent bedside manner and made me feel comfortable and safe just before the anesthesia took over. I don't remember the anesthesia Dr's name or any of the nurses names because of nerves, but they were all absolutely wonderful and treated me with kindness, professionalism and patience during my time with them. As soon as I screw up my courage again, I'll be going back for a colonoscopy. THANK YOU EVERYONE AT DESERT SUN!!!!!

Honest Review. The Facilities: The place is clean, easy to find, and has plenty of parking. There are signs every where that talk about "No Cell Phone Use Allowed" which is just odd. The Receptionist: She was nice, made good eye contact and seemed very task focused. I'm not sure what else I would want to see in this person. The Paperwork: It is awful. Its more than 5 pages and several of the requested fields are repetitive. The final page is a page that asks you to allow them to put your card on file...just rubbed me the wrong way. Your not my cable company. The Wait: Also awful. I had a 3:45 appointment. I arrived at 3:20. I was finally taken back to the waiting room at 4:23 and no one said a thing. No apology, no update, nothing. The Medical Aide - She was great. Clearly a little rattled and I can't blame her. The male aide was also very nice. I felt bad for them both (see below). They had a very good patient care mentality and were helpful. The Doctor: He is the reason I will not go back. I am a larger man (320 lbs) and yes I am aware that I need to lose weight. I am down 75 pounds in a year and yes I shouldn't have gotten it to this point. I don't need to be talked down to about it. Yes, I have a GI problem and yes I think my father gave it to me; no, I'm not going to be apologetic for that. Dr. Gottlieb cut me off multiple times, appeared annoyed that I was in the office, refused to make eye contact with me and when I said "Thank You" on the way out while he was in his office after pawning me off on his medical assistant, the response I received back was "yep". There was no discussion on the procedure, there was no bedside manner, there was just move the number through and collect my specialty co-pay. Overall: I won't ever return. My wife had a similar experience and there are other options in the city. If I need to go out of state, I will. I expect a certain level of patient care when I paying the money I am. This failed to meet expectations. I hope the two medical assistants find other jobs because it is clear to me that Dr Gottlieb is not kind to his people.

I have to admit that I was a bit concerned about going here after reading some of the reviews. Even though some of them just sounded like whining, it's still concerning when choosing a medical professional. That being said, I went anyway and have to say I was surprised. Yes there's a ton of paperwork -- what doctor doesn't have that these days? And yes they need to guarantee they're going to get paid -- what would you do if you ran the place? The bottom line for me was that everyone - to a person - did their job, paid attention to my medical needs, and got me in an out with as little hassle as possible. Dr. Gross was polite and attentive, Stephanie the nurse - very efficient and pleasant, and the anesthesiologist (Dr. S? - didn't get his name but I joked it looked like Dr. Seuss on his scrubbs - of course that was after I was coming out of my dream state!) was also very cheerful and attentive. John also called the next day to make sure everything was OK. To those who didn't feel 'coddled', sorry -- my experience was just fine.
