image My mom and I went to the Abbey a few years back and it was one of the most delicious meals I have ever had. We finally had a chance to go back a couple days ago and were disappointed to see that the food was not nearly as good as the first time we went. I had the burger with a side of mac and cheese. The burger was ok, Certainly not the best burger in Tucson and probably not even in my top ten. The fries were just about burnt. The mac and cheese was probably the most disappointing part of the whole meal for me. It had no flavor at all. Could not even finish it. It had a nice breaded crust on the top but there was absolutely no cheese in it. My mother had the duck enchiladas which were pretty good. My stepdad had the sandwich special which was a pork sandwich. He could eat most of it because it was just smothered with horseradish. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was acceptable. However, someone should have clearly looked at all of our unfinished plates and asked if something was wrong. Normally I would give this a 2 star rating but considering the price of the food it is inexcusable to serve below mediocre food. Ultimately I was very disappointed and probably will not go back for a while.

image We've eaten at the Abbey several times, sitting at the bar. The service is excellent and the food is good, but could be better.. They are heavy handed with the salt on all their red meat dishes, they need to lighten up.

image Excellent on many ways except one very important way. Service was mostly good, I liked the atmosphere and the servers were friendly and knowledgeable. Drinks are excellent, as was their bread and infused olive oil. So good in fact I asked if they sold it. They don't. The problem, I ordered Ribeye and my husband ordered the pot roast. Both of our meals were so salty we couldn't finish them. The ribeye they suggested we order medium but when I got it was really rare, a good part of it too rare for me to eat. They made a wonderful sliced carrot side, but again too salty. They served the meat with an arugula salad with blue cheese and bacon on top of the meat. Again quite salty. The meat in my husbands pot roast was cooked perfectly except the sauce again, very salty. When we sat down, they filled our water glasses twice, once the meal came, no more water refills which we really needed by then. I wonder if they had a substitute chef that night. I don't think a highly trained chef would have put out such salty items. I want to say, we use salt and like salt, no high blood pressure in this family, thankfully, but if you are watching your salt you probably need to go someplace else. The food presentation I must say was very nice.

image Great place with pleasant service and good food. First time visit for a friend's birthday , our group was promptly taken care of and we enjoyed ourselves and the food was good, not memorable as some other places in town but all was good.

image The last couple of times, the quality of meals seems to have diminished. However, after almost choking on a thin metal wire from a meal last night, my husband vows never to go back. It was how management handled the incident that has turned us off of the Abbey.
Seeing my husband in distress, the Abbey manager came over to see what was going on. We showed him the metal wire. He apologized and said it was unacceptable and it should have never happened. He thought it was wire from scrub brush and offered my husband another glass of wine. At the end of the meal, the bill came without further word from management. We were shocked to find that the restaurant saw it fitting to charge for the contaminated dinner. This was pointed out to the waiter who had to go to the manager to remove the charge. We were stunned that we had to ask to have it removed from our bill. My husband’s throat is still scratchy today and we will not be returning to the Abbey.
