Becky is a godsend. The woman who owns Artplay is a shrewd control freak who understands that special needs kids bring in a lot of money. Proceed with caution.

I feel so honored to be able to write a review for Liz Tomko at Artplay. I first took my two granddaughters to see her when they were four and five years old. That was 11 years ago and they still have sessions with her! There was an immediate connection that she was able to make with these two girls. It was truly magical for them to spend time there. With Liz’s guidance through play they have been able to work through some of the tough moments of growing up. I highly recommend Liz because of her character, her values, her professionalism, her ability to authentically connect with children and build trust as a strong foundation of play and art therapy. We are so grateful for Liz! Deborah Lana

My 9-year old son’s been working with Liz for a few months now. After every visit, he leaves with a smile on his face. He’s genuinely excited to share the interactive work they tackled during the session, and he’s learning to better communicate his feelings at home. Perhaps more importantly, he loves going! He’s literally said “Liz is awesome!†and “I can’t wait to go back.†I can’t wait to see his progress over time.

My ex-wife took my son to this place and everything was great until Liz cut his hair without his mother's permission. She was in the next room and when the session was over, his hair was cut horribly, not even bangs, it was as if she used children's scissors and chopped it off and it still stands out terribly against the rest of his hair. His mother approached the situation via email after the session because she was too angry to say something when Liz told her she cut his hair because my son was going there after being assaulted by a teacher and then she cuts his hair without letting her know. Her request to cut his hair would have been declined. My son is Native and not only is no one to touch his hair, they are certainly not allowed to cut it. Being that Liz lives in Phoenix where there is a high population of Indigenous people, you'd think she would have some sort of background and notice the norm in men having long hair. There is also a history of people cutting off Native boys' long hair off against their will and even if my son did not say no, it was because at that time he was too scared to say no to an adult in fear of being assaulted again. Liz's response to my ex wife was a non-apology and did not hold herself accountable for her actions, which compelled my ex wife to no longer require services from Artplay. The trust was broken and now everything was questioned because as I write this review, I can't imagine any reason why I would put my hands on another person's child, besides a hug, let alone cut their hair while his mother is sitting in the next room.
