The self-guided tour is just okay. Of our group of 8, only 3 people got the companion app to work, so we shared phones to get the experience. It was interesting, but probably best suited to those with a solid interest in earth science. In my opinion, it was a bit pricey for the experience. Roughly 2 hours of you're taking it slow.

The facility and its history is fascinating. Unfortunately, with the current app-based tour method, you really don't get the opportunity to appreciate it. Each station includes a short video that for the most part just emphasizes University of Arizona's research desires (none of which seem to have come to fruition) and an ad for their conference center. An example of just how poor this was is that they didn't even explain why it is named "Biosphere 2". The underground portion, support facilities, and lungs are only accessible via an add-on tour ($10). We were disappointed to find out that this was offered after we had completed the app-based tour and that the next tour didn't start for several hours. Overall the staff were very friendly and the facility seemingly well maintained. I hope that the current administration will put some more effort into the tour to give visitors a much better experience. For an example of a compelling narrative, checkout the podcast episode from Nice Try, "Biosphere 2".

Place it worthless now.. Cannot access most of the facility anymore unless you are staff! Forced to download an app and watch videos all throughout. I can watch TV from my couch! Waste of a drive and money now. Choose a different adventure in TUS. This place is a ghosttown, and it shows! PASS.....
