I brought my brand new Malibu to JC Marine for its initial oil change.  They changed the oil and filter as scheduled, but used 6 quarts instead of the required 8 quarts.  The "Check Engine" light came on in the boat when I took it out, so I checked the oil level in the boat.  There was no oil on the dipstick.  I took the boat back to JC Marine, explained the problem (mistakes happen), and left the boat with them.  They called and and insisted that the dipstick showed oil was right in the middle of the dipstick, indicating it had the appropriate level of oil.  When I picked the boat up, I showed them a video of the dipstick from the previous day, and asked why they thought it showed low.  They looked me in the eyes, told me that the oil was at the mid level now, and thought maybe oil was still running through the engine and not in the pan when I checked while on the water.  He further insisted that he had checked with a Malibu shop to confirm the boat only accepted 6 quarts.  When I got the boat home and parked it in a level-floored garage, I checked the oil level again.  It showed no oil on the dipstick. I drove the boat back to JC Marine, and asked the manager to show me how he was reading the dipstick at the mid level.  He pulled the dipstick, and it had no oil showing.  He then told me it was an associate that saw the oil in the mid level -  and not himself (different than what he told me earlier).  We added 2 quarts (for 8 total, as prescribed in the manual), and the oil level.  Mistakes happen.  What is awful about this, is that he told me that he had checked the oil level, and that it was at the appropriate level, without even checking it (even though that is why I brought the boat back in).
