When I say this is the best excursion I've done in AK, that is a big deal. I have done over 20 different options in the cruise ports and the experience with Alaska Travel Adventures was absolutely top notch. We booked through the cruise lines and chose the backcountry jeep, lake canoe, and nature hike. Often times excursions like this are mellowed out for tourists, not the case with Alaska Travel Adventures. After a short drive from the downtown cruise port we arrived at HQ. The Jeeps were all in great shape, and well equipped. They were also all turned on and warmed up for us. Each passenger who wished to drive had to sign and provide drivers license and insurance information, and then we were off. We drove down a gravel road to the first offroad trail, and switched into 4WD. Heading single file through the single track we navigated rocky hills, descents, and most importantly large puddles. We reached two scenic overlooks where we took lots of photos and learned more about the local area. Once we reached the lake, we were provided with rain gear, and life jackets before we jumped in the canoe. It was a large canoe which held our whole group, so there is no need to worry about a small unstable canoe experience. Although mildly strenuous, the 15 minute paddle across the lake was awesome! Waiting for us was a tasty smorgasbord of bread, different spreads, clam chowder, coffee, and hot chocolate. The chowder was amazing, and based in recommendation we all had the mountain mocha (cowboy coffee + hot chocolate) SO GOOD! We headed out on the nature hike hot drinks in hand, and learned more about the local rainforest. Our guides outlined many of the different species of trees, mushrooms, and several edible plants. Near the end of the tour we even got to see an abandoned bear den. After the return paddle, and a quick drive back to HQ our tour was completed. I cannot recommend this tour enough FIVE HUGE stars, and two thumbs WAY up!

The canoeing was great and our guide hilarious! The off roading was lacking a little but I get why. They want to preserve the nature. If your looking for a thrill ride this isn't it. But if you are looking to ride through some beautiful scenery and gorgeous photo opportunities this is the place
