My mom was cared for at Gulf Coast for almost 5 years prior to her recent passing at age 93. We had a very good experience and would not have placed her anywhere else! The kind, caring, knowledgeable staff are so appreciated and we are grateful for all they do. Gina Stringfellow

This facility has a 2 star rating from Medicare. It should really be 1 star. I did not do my due diligence and trusted what the website said about the facility. This place is so, so bad. The bathroom is shared between two rooms. Each room has 2 patients. The bathroom had an overwhelming smell of urine in spite of its neat appearance. Each bathroom has a shower/tub combo with a very high side to step over. The rooms are stark and dingy. The beds are subpar for patients recovering from hip injuries. The lights are operated by a flimsy string and bed linens are minimal. My father was admitted at 5 pm. There was no one to greet us and explain how he would get help when he needed it. My father is unable to walk without assistance. He asked what he was supposed to do if he needed to have a BM. The CNA said for him to go in his depends diaper or to walk to the bathroom. When we told her that he couldn't walk, she plainly stated that they have wheelchairs and he can use that. I went to the nursing desk to ask where the call button was. As I was walking to the desk, it was clear that I was approaching to ask them a question. Three nurses made eye contact with me and quickly turned and walked in the other direction. Finally after standing in front of one for several minutes, she finally allowed me to ask my question. This is no place for a patient with cognitive issues. If I can only get assistance with great difficulty,it was clear that my father would be completely ignored. In the time that I was there, there were call buttons chiming the entire time that nobody responded to. I made the decision that my father was not safe at this facility and checked him out. I will grant that my father is a difficult dementia patient and I felt that it was unlikely that he would receive compassionate care from the staff. The one thing that I want to say if you have read this far is that when I walked into the room for the first time and saw him laying in that bed, I had the greatest feeling of dread and hopelessness that I have ever experienced in my life. This is not a happy place. It is sad and depressing. There was not a single ounce of me that could try to sugarcoat it for my father. It would not be fair to pretend that he would be happy and well taken care of there.
