Dr. Brian Harkins, MD | Houston Robotic Surgeon

This doctor convinced my husband that he had a terrible hernia and he needed to have it fixed immediately or he was at grave risk -- even life threatening. In a panic, my husband followed through with the surgery and then suffered terrible pain following. Dr. Harkins and his staff did not return phone calls. Nor did he EVER schedule a follow up visit. We are unsure of what happened, but am 100% certain that something happened to his back during the surgery (was he dropped??) as my husband woke up from surgery with excrutiating back pain more than he had ever experienced. The pain did not subside and shortly thereafter my husband's back pain forced him to purchase a mobility scooter, which he has now used for 8 years. Due to Dr. Harkin's lack of response, we sought the advice of another doctor who shared that my husband's hernia was not a hernia at all, but diastasis resti, which is when the abdominal walls separate due to excess weight. The surgery was 100% completely unnecessary. It has been approximately 8 years since my husband's "hernia" surgery and I can unequivocally state that my husband's severe demise of health began with the completely unnecessary surgery by Dr. Brian Harkins. The hernia mesh is now a solid wall in his abdomen that causes constant pain. He has had multiple back surgeries, but in spite of our best attempts, he is now unable to walk more than a few steps without excrutiating pain. Dr. Harkins may be a qualified doctor. However, please get a second opinion. This simple act would have completely changed the trajectory of my husband's life and is a regret that we will always live with.

Had robot ventral hernia repair robotic by Dr. Harkins 7/2020. On 2/1/2022 CT scan shows large ventral hernia bigger than the original hernia. Very disappointing surgery.

Dr. Harkins is very professional and one of the best trained surgeons out there. He actually teaches courses using the robotics technology to other surgeons. He was very thorough and explained what he had to do and all the while maintaining positive professional attitude.

Absolutely the Best Robotic Surgeon in the US, if not the WORLD! Dr. Brian Harkins recently removed my gallbladder. He was extremely knowledgeable and put my mind at ease. I felt very comfortable being in his capable hands. Dr. Harkins has a great bedside manner while being assertive and efficient. After having him walk me through the procedure, I was confident everything was going to be okay. I felt blessed that he was available to be my surgeon. Dr. Harkins was so amazing when it came to discharging me from the hospital after my surgery. He allowed the staff to release me on the same day so I could go home to my family. I was so appreciative that he was able to move things around and get me in for emergency robotic surgery. I am so thankful to Dr. Harkins and all his team for making my journey smooth! I would definitely recommend him to friends and family!!
