One of their drivers was doing 50 mph on the freeway for 5 miles with NO traffic. When I was finally able to pass him (he was still in the fast lane) he was talking on his phone oblivious to the world around him.

What is happening on highway 50 in Camino is a dangerous joke. I commute through there daily and it is a different mess every day. Some days the cones match the signs, some days they dont. Today was a unclear Slalom course with most of the cones knocked down. Some days its completely unclear what lane you are driving in or even how many lanes there are. The center divider has been torn down and rebuilt multiple times and looks as ugly as a mud fence. I thought that once the paving started things would get better but no, the paving was so bad they had to grind 100% of it to get it smooth. Utter incompetence, Caltrans should get someone that knows what they are doing to fix this mess.

Let me preface my review by saying that the work theyre doing is somewhat decent. The section of mainline US50 that theyve repaved is very smooth and nice to drive on, and the rest of the project LOOKS great, mostly. However, Security Pavings lack of communication with Caltrans and the CHP is leading to lots of confusion and anger to those living in the vicinity of the Camino Safety Project, and to those who commute daily through that project. The contractor has failed to communicate lane/road closures to Caltrans, which in turn doesnt allow Caltrans to provide adequate warning to Camino residents and the commuters, and even the tourists on their way to Tahoe. Not to mention that a good amount of times, their signage doesnt match whats actually going on, e.g. a dynamic message board stating that the left lane will be closed ahead, but the barrel cones and the lit arrow sign both say to merge to the left as the right lane is actually closed. With the transition from building the underpass to the repaving of mainline 50, theres been lots of confusion and anger as no one knows what to expect on any given day. One day you can leave your neighborhood and go one way, the next, you have to detour 5 miles to be able to get to work. Another thing to add is how long its taking them to finish the center divide. Theres multiple sections that theyve made, which Caltrans has rejected. They redo that section only to have Caltrans reject it again, delaying the process further because they cant seem to get one stretch of concrete right. Some crews are competent while others arent. Highly irritating to me as someone who drives through daily, and I can only imagine the frustration of the residents who reside within the projects boundaries.
