The place is bizarre for sure. The owner and his sidekick are a hoot. Don't be a judgemental tightwad and you'll probably have a good time! The guys are incredibly smart and experienced. They have been in the business longer than many of these other reviewers have been alive. Despite their long tenure, they have kept up with technology and understand the actual engineering behind the complex electronics they are selling. They don't just import junk and mark it up. They custom build their own LED lights with large wattage margins and then sell them for less than you can find quality lights online. As a hardware guy, I know the difference between good and bad equipment. You can buy cheap and chintzy lighting from eBay or aliexpress all day long, but it'll end up costing you more in the long run as your bulbs/ballasts/transformers burn out long before you expected it to. These guys have low prices similar to the cheap-o gear, but that's thanks to their low overhead. Hydro Tech is not pleasing to the eye, but what some people see as a shabby shack, others quickly recognize as extremely low overhead and a savvy (albeit rather messy) operator. I got a great deal on my last load of supplies there, and I will most definitely return for my next batch. If you're as open minded as you think you are, head on down and say high!
