It was a pleasurable experience for the time it existed. I moved into my apartment at Chai House 2 toward the end of 2017, and as of July 1, 2021 it has been taken by a new owner. It’s now called Redwood Seniors. I’m not exactly sure why people after some specific age suddenly become silver or gold and even platinum but redwood is a new one for me. The redwood, most likely refers to the beautiful sequoia trees all around the complex. They provide wonderful shade for the gardens in back and make this place very comfortable. During the Chai House Era, a meal program existed serving dinner five nights a week. The new owners will not continue this feature anymore after July 1, 2021. The dining every evening was a pleasant experience most of the time because it gave many seniors an opportunity to have social contact, and sometimes the only human contact they would have all day. Many complained about the dining program because they didn’t want to pay the additional costs. It’s now become a mute point. The future is now called Redwood Seniors, as Chai House and the dinner program closures have marked the end of an era whose end was plagued with Coronavirus SARs2. The illness took it’s share of victims, including someone who served our food every evening. I’ll have to amend my evaluation after my experience grows under the new management.

I have been living here for 5 1/2 years. The managing company has put a lot of work and time into improving the appearance of Chai House, and it shows. Completely painted, inside and out, old carpeting was taken out and replaced with beautiful wood floors. All new furniture in the lobby and hallways. The staff is very friendly and the food program is excellent. Great chef Don. Apartments are spacious. Small pets allowed. Lots of activities, including entertainment. Best thing about Chai House is the feeling of family. Everyone looks out for one another. I can’t say enough good things about this place. One last thing. I would not pay much attention to the 1 star reviews. Some of these people never lived here, and those that did were known by everyone to be chronic complainers and troublemakers. Chai House is for seniors (age 55+) and people with disabilities. It is considered to be affordable housing. Given how expensive it is to live in Silicon Valley, the rent here is very reasonable. Best move I ever made.
