Don’t let the five-star reviews fool you! I am mystified at how John Beaudry Landscape Design received them. I would give negative stars if I could. I hired Mr. Beaudry to design a garden, build an area for my barbeque, replace all the plants, irrigation and lighting in my small yard. I checked his references. It was the worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. For starters Mr. Beaudry told me he was a design-build company. He is not. He subcontracted out the entire job and marked up the price. The subcontractor he saddled me with was Frank Siragusa of Bella Landscaping. He did a terrible job. John Beaudry never showed up on time for one appointment. He was apathetic and never advocated for me as a client when I had problems with HIS subcontractor. And the problems were numerous. It took almost 16 weeks to complete a job that was, at the outside, supposed to take 6 weeks. Beaudry specified plants that were not available at the nurseries and never provided substitutes. Siragusa would only go to the “contractor only” nursery to find plants. He refused to go to other nurseries he had accounts with. As a result, I ended up having to buy most of the plants myself if I wanted the job to proceed. Siragusa’s team on average only showed up about three times a week. And it was never for a full day. Except during the demo phase, there was never more than two guys on the job. Some days one guy would show up for two hours. Phone calls and text messages were largely ignored. I never knew from day to day if someone was going to show up for work. Siragusa was irresponsible and unprofessional. I made Beaudry aware of this but he said there was nothing he could do because Siragusa was not his employee. Does this make any sense when you claim to be a design-build company? Because I didn’t hire Siragusa, I couldn’t fire him. Because of Covid, there were no other landscape contractors available that wanted to clean up someone else’s mess. I was completely stuck. Siragusa hired unskilled, untrained labor. I had to dig up and replant many, many plants that his people planted. I also ended up having to plant a major portion of the plants myself to keep things moving! It was necessary to spend every hour they were there watching everything they did. I also spent endless hours each day they worked cleaning up their mess. Hauling away debris, rocks, dirt, etc. Some of Siragusa’s crew were so rude that I had to tell him not bring them back. And, if a crew member was polite, they at times still wouldn’t do what was asked. If it was something they didn’t want to do, they just wouldn’t do it. And it didn’t matter if I mentioned it to Beaudry or Siragusa. They did nothing. There was no care put into anything. No pride of workmanship, no customer service, no respect for the customer. There were numerous items specified in the contract that were never done. The things that did get done usually had to be done over because they weren’t’ done properly in the first place. I even had to hire an electrician to fix a GFI outlet that was installed incorrectly by Siragusa. And Beaudry, it was his job, he rarely showed up. He always passed the buck. I learned Beaudry Landscape Designs violated California state law by collecting more than 50% of the money for my job upfront. State law says a contractor can’t collect more than $1,000 or 10% of the job upfront, whichever is less. No money can be collected before labor is performed and supplies delivered. I won’t make this mistake again. I realize I’m being lengthy. But I didn’t even touch the tip of the iceberg. I am a knowledgeable gardener and was able to recognize problems as they occurred. I am also a very proactive individual. But what happens to the person who thinks they are hiring a professional and don’t know they are getting substandard work? That’s why I am writing this review. Again, please don’t let those five-star reviews fool you.
