I have lived at Independence Village for almost eight years. I find the staff to be generally friendly and responsive. The meals are good, although they tend to have too many carbohydrates. The building is about thirty years old, so it's not in perfect shape, but it's kept clean, and they are constantly making improvements. The residents are friendly. The activities director is excellent, and there is a very active bridge club. One of the best things about Independence Village is its location - within walking distance of restaurants, a grocery store, two banks, a pack-and-ship store, two pharmacies, a nail salon, and a hairdresser. It's also near Rex Hospital and many doctors offices.

My brother Mark lived there for 7 years. Wanda Pore and her team did a great job helping him stay independent for as long as he was able. Thanks to the team for great work.

1 word disgusting. My mother has lived here for at least 3 years and the place has gone down hill since. Lets start with her apartment she signed up for their cleaning service and I came into her apartment absolute mess; looked like no one touched it for weeks then her neighboring residents have roaches you can see them crawling down the hall ways literally. The smell on the first floor is horrific understood its an elderly facility but just disgusting with stains on walls. Then heres the icing on the cake I go down to the front desk to speak to the elderly woman and as Im trying to speak a resident says they need there room sprayed for bed bugs again AGAIN!!! Their first floor bathroom smelled or urine and had feces smeared on the floor. Sadly this is the cheapest facility on the block but I am just stomach turned after coming to see my mother. I will be moving her out this month and hoping to find her a better facility. Also to add on to the long list we heard the staff in the office speaking about rats in the kitchen Im this close to calling the health department. YUCK
