Christ the King Lutheran Church

On behalf of a small group of neighborhood parents (all who live within walking distance of this church), wed like to share the mistrust Pastor Dorothy has created in our community. Past and present partnerships between the church and outside organizations have brought harm to our neighborhood. The church hosted a fraudulent COVID testing site during the pandemic and is now considering bringing in a homeless project. We urge the church to reconsider the projects they host and have a collective responsibility to manage, as they directly impact neighbors. The church, nested within a walkable suburban neighborhood (near schools, daycares, and private residences) is not a safe location to host an overnight homeless vehicle project.

Christ the King Church, while well intentioned, has fully lost the trust of their surrounding community. It started with their choice to host a Covid testing center that has now been found to be fraudulent. Then they considered hosting a small/tiny home project only to be denied a city permit because it would endanger the preschool THEY CURRENTLY HOST. Now they plan to end the preschool program they host to pave the way for a homeless overnight parking project. They are out of touch with their community and it was made clear tonight at a meeting they hosted, do NOT have support to continue in their irresponsible and poorly planned efforts. Its time they take a step back to reconsider their approach and process before further alienating us all.

Its so incredibly sad that the church isnt listening to the actual people living on Bull Mountain. The overwhelming number of people dont want this (as evident by the two meetings). After what happened at one of the Beaverton sites, the thought of this encampment is even more troublesome. This isnt the right place. With no drug tests and no true oversight (a social worker checking in isnt oversight), this is a slippery slope which will lead to very obvious issues (it just takes one look at Portland).
