I simply called to inquire about a friend who was checking in. Brooke, who answered the phone, stated to me that he's "probably" not there and she couldn't tell me because of HIPA laws. I understand completely, but I suggested she might be able to answer my next question since she was knowledgeable on HIPA law.
If he's added me to the HIPA list, as he told me he would do, would I be able to find out if he was a patient?
I couldn't finish a sentence without Brooke cutting me off to insistently tell me he's not there. She didn't state any reason why she could or couldnt answer that question. She didn't even acknowledge that I was asking a question. She continued to try to get rid of me as though I had asked a multitude of questions and she didn't want to deal with me. There was no pause in her attempt to tell me that "I'm telling you he's probably not here."
If this is a mental health facility, I would expect them to have the basics of listening down & the basics of expressing care and concern for family and friends. I know that people who are worried about their loved ones may be overbearing sometimes but I most definitely maintained a neutral attitude.
Our phone call lasted 2 minutes in which I asked if my friend was there and if I would be able to inquire, according to HIPA law, if he was somewhere if I was added to the list. Simple.
I don't want to answer your questions, I'm pretty sure he's not here is unacceptable.
