Hi Rhonda. First of all, I am again sorry for your loss and can only imagine your pain dealing with losing your mother at Christmas time. I'm also sorry that I had to be the bearer of bad news concerning your mother's jewelry but even more, I did not want to take advantage of your grief and say that we could do something no honest jeweler could do. I completely understand your desire to "replace stones and rework these precious pieces." We do work exactly like this every day. But as I explained, in this case, the jewelry was too far gone to be restored. Most of the metal suffers from porosity and many of the stones are knicked, chipped, and/or abraded. The fact that a prong broke off with only slight pressure from my thumbnail only proved my point about how weak the metal had become since you seemed not to want to hear the bad news. And I totally get that. They were your mother's. I also explained that there was insufficient “healthy” metal to reliably attach new prongs too. Again, we love work like this when we can do it responsibly and give you beautiful jewelry that you will enjoy for decades. As I explained at the time, it simply wasn’t possible with your mom’s jewelry and I was merely trying to save you from more grief down the road. Finally, I certainly did not mean to be dismissive but can understand how you might have taken it that way. It was only a couple of days before Christmas and while I might have normally stayed with you until you came to grips with the situation, in this case, the rest of my family were all dealing with multiple clients and a full store and needed my help as well. Once again, I am sorry for your loss and am sorry I could not give you better news. And I completely understand your wanting to vent although it was nothing that we did or didn’t do apart from being honest with you. Please be assured of my prayers for you and your family during this difficult time.
