After many attempts at scoring a reservation at Olema House, we got one and this resort does not disappoint! The photos I took say it all. Every detail and every thing here has a purpose. Whether it's serenity, beauty, quiet, good food, good wine, good sleep, good service -- it's all here. We came to rest on our way back from the Redwood Forest, and after staying in rural California, which is rustic and hard, we needed luxury, relaxation and comfort. Olema House in remarkable Point Reyes has it all.

We came up from SF and were intrigued to try out Olema House and splurge a little. Well. This place is overpriced because of its proximity to beautiful and quaint California surroundings but don't expect too much in terms of the room. We had a Mountain View King and although there's a gorgeous view out the bay windows the room is small. There's no closet space or desk. The fireplace is not working, although they provide candles to make up for it -- we were misled to believe the fireplace was operational, or perhaps we should have asked more specifically about it. The bed and pillow are fabulous, but the TV was weirdly small for the size of the wall -- we didn't mind too much because we had work to do catching up on Cowboy Carter. TVs are so inexpensive now, though, so I'm always surprised a hotel doesn't shell out for it. This place isn't very quiet. It's right on the road so there is pretty constant car noise throughout the day. The room door and window facing the street are not sound proofed so be prepared to hear cars. Room to room noise seems fine, although you can hear house cleaning personnel banging around as is typical in hotels. I wouldn't stay here again because of the exorbitant "luxury" cost for what are only modest accommodations. You'd think at $500+/night the design of the rooms and the common space in the hotel would be much nicer. The "game room" and coffee/tea lounge areas are small and feel only a few steps above a car dealership waiting room area. Why would you put a TV next to a fireplace? The hotel is more oriented for the outside round circling a firepit and seating next to the stream. Also keep in mind if it's rainy you may feel a little claustrophobic in your room. Just be warned. I can be harsh I know. But it's expensive! Let me say the staff was phenomenally friendly and attentive and the place was clean and well stocked. The lawn in back of the property by the stream is also quite scenic.
