    I needed help finding a missing part to one of my blinds and visited their repair shop and had a rollicking good time. They were all at once friendly, professional and helpful and they knew the products inside and out. This is why friends don't let friends buy shades from big box stores. Customer service beyond.

    When Hans owned this store some years ago, I bought many of my shades at this store. And he had impeccable customer service. I recently went back to replace my shades and was happy to see the store was still there. On placing my order the new owner, Lindsay Salas, guaranteed the fabric and hardware I wanted was available. When I brought my order home and opened the boxes, I was very disappointed to find out they had fabricated my shades with the wrong fabric! No calls, no asking if I was ok with a different fabric, and a blas attitude about the error. She offered to redo but my chosen fabric and hardware were not available. We now had to scramble with other options, other brands. She offered to refund, but I had already waited over a month between back orders and errors, so I agreed to a redo with a different brand. It took two more months to received the order and the product they delivered was just so below standard, chain color did not match the bulky hardware and the fabrication was just so rough we decided not to install any of the shades. The worst of my experience was their customer service. The general attitude of both the owner and the various assistants there was rude and uninterested in my business to say the least. And they made me feel they had too many and much larger business to attend to. And when we went to pick up our shades, her husband yelled profanities at us for parking in their parking lot to pick up the order! and he refused to help us load the large boxes into my car. I will never return to this store. They are crass in their attention to customers and the products they sell are below standard. Stay away. For the money you will spend on your window coverings you deserve excellent customer service.

    I was happy to find his store because Alcatraz shade shop is close to where I live. I wanted to use them for my new blinds. However, I will never use Alcatraz shade shop again. Here is my story: I came in for repair on my rollup blind and they replaced part of it, but they made it too long so I had to bring it back to have them redo it. I would think a professional would measure before they repaired the blind. They were not very sympathetic or apologetic. Furthermore, each time I have come in to the store it feels like they dont want my business, I feel like Im not wanted, or that Im interrupting them. The lady who takes the order is always curt, rarely friendly, I dont think Ive seen her smile. My jokes and light hearted behavior fell on deaf ears. I hope you have a better experience than I did. I had a better experience at the blind store in Alameda.

Interesting recollection of events. So, let me get this straight, you’re upset because I went above and beyond to get you what you wanted because the shade stores you visited prior to Alcatraz didn’t have what you were looking for? And the first batch of shades came as a mistake so with no trepidation we went back to the drawing board to get you what you wanted, at no expense to you, and you still aren’t happy with the shades? I can guarantee there is nothing wrong with either set as both are beautiful shades. I also would be willing to bet they are hanging in your windows right now, and if they are not then that is incredibly wasteful, smh. You were updated via email every time there was a delay with your order. I would say communication was on point and my above and beyond service was also on point. You and your husband came in hot when you came to pick up your order. The only profanities and insults were the ones flying out of your mouth in our driveway and in the street towards my husband and my assistant. Your episode was obscene and 100% inappropriate. After you drove off the upstairs tenants came down to make sure we were ok and not in danger. I’ve never encountered a customer like Gladys in my 15 years at Alcatraz Shade. Our customers are the most wonderful people, and we cherish them all because they are the ones that that make Alcatraz Shade possible.I am very sorry I have caused you such upset.
