Alabama unemployment is horrible to say the least. I was recently laid off my job, so I filed a claim. You all system is still operating on the same level as oregon Trail. The rep who did my claim did not know what she was doing, hence the reason my claim is all jacked up now. This is week 4 and still have yet to receive a payment. The portal stated there was an issue that was preventing payment. I called multiple times only to be told everything is ok. I called the call back hotline Tuesday( It's 2024, get with the times people) to set an appointment for a call back bc the portal now said I was disqualified. I finally received a letter in the mail the same day, which had a deadline for the next day. I was told I needed to verify my identity. I wonder why?I hurried to send in the documents requested, seeing as I only had less than 24 hours to do so. I received my phone call next day, she verified they had received my documents but stated I still needed to send additional information to verify I was registered with Tennessee workforce since I reside in Tennessee. She stated I must submit that and schedule another call back to make sure they receive it. Fully knowing that you can only have 1 call back per week. I faxed the verification as requested and still have not received payment nor has my status been updated in the portal. I hate that I even have to go through this unemployment process but through no fault of my own I'm here. I worked and paid into this system and I expect to receive my benefits in a timely manner until we return to work. Alabama fix this issue immediately.

Well, after a nearly 2 year process and even my former employer originally providing notification that I should pursue unemployment compensation in the first place due to an unprecedented global pandemic, I received nothing but denials. My denial after my first hearing, which my former employer did not attend, was riddled with errors and inaccuracies. I corrected and resubmitted but was denied on appeal yet again. The only option would be to pursue legal action with more expense than what I would gain. I feel I was misrepresented by this department and treated unfairly. I hope to never be in a situation that requires me to seek their assistance and wish those who do the best of luck.
