Clean and available, could use some major updating?

Not any problem with running later than planned. Owner took me to #10, unlocked room and turned on light...answered all my questions. Bright and early next morning cheerful owner getting a vehicle moved so two of us could back out and leave. Excellent breakfast at Hilltop Cafe on drive out and reasonably priced.

Can't comment on how the rooms are. The owner is nice. Our experience was not. The night receptionist is unbelievably unprofessional & inconsiderate. We depend on internet reviews to book rooms while we're traveling, The Hilltop got good reviews so we decided to give them a try instead of one of the chain hotels. I made the reservation & secured it with our credit card. I explained we would be a late check in, probably 7:30-8:00pm. The owner ASSURED me that was not an issue. We arrived at 7:30. No lights were on...at all! We drove right by the place! We turned around, only to find the office door was locked. A note on the door said "push black button to ring bell or call (& listed a phone #)". I rang the bell several times. Nothing... no one. I called the number..... Different from the hotel number online, by the way, I got a voicemail. So I call the hotel number I called to make the reservation. The owner answered, he says he'll be there in 5 min. 2-3 min. later he calls back & says to go to room #1, that the night clerk's phone must have died and they must not have heard the bell. We go to room #1, knock & knock & knock. Nothing & no one. I call the owner back, he says, "the clerk must have gone to the grocery store." Seriously? You're expecting a late check in, they haven't arrived, and you leave BEFORE they get there to go shopping??? We drove FOUR HOURS further than what we really HAD to based on reviews, we were dead tired, then had to drive another 90 min in order to find another pet friendly place with a vacancy. The owner very promptly issued our credit card (thank you for the promptness. Very much appreciated.) But his staff was extremely unprofessional and unbelievably inconsiderate. Can't say this was the owner's fault. It was upsetting, HIGHLY annoying to say the least. All I can say is, if you stay, make sure you check in before dark..... before the owner leaves.....
