Allen was on time for an estimate and very thorough in his assessment of what we needed. Ultimately, our project needed more than the services The Grout Doctor would be able to complete, but Allen provided articles, videos, and referrals for the work we need done. Glancing at some of his before and after pictures, its clear Allen is a top notch pro, and his demeanor and professionalism back that up. I would be happy to hire Allen in the future or recommend him to anyone.

After an unusual amount of difficulty in scheduling an appointment (having to use a poorly-coded online calendar that gave me a different date than the one I'd clicked on), Allen was 50 minutes late for an early AM estimate w/ no apology or explanation. He was forthright, at least, in declining the work.

The Grout Doctor (Allan) provided us with an estimate for prepping and applying Enduroshield tile/grout sealant to the tile surrounding our bathtub and for prepping and staining the bathroom floor grout. The estimate was $600 for a small bathroom that is less than two years old (clean, in good condition, just needed grout/tile sealing to prevent water damage) and it was communicated to us that it would be about a half day's worth of work for him. We were ok with that initial estimate and ultimately decided we didn't want the floor stained, just sealed with Enduroshield as the floor grout only had very minor discoloration. We let Allan know of this change and our new quote was $575 that was communicated as Allan was beginning the work that morning. Allan stated that each bottle of Enduroshield costs him about $150--one bottle was used for our project. My husband and I were leaving for work that morning and Allan requested his check payment prior to starting our work. The check was written to him in good faith that the work would be completed as described. Allan proceeded to apply the Enduroshield product to our wall tile and floor and had completed his work within half an hour of arrival (verified via our security camera footage). Our poor review isn't reflective of the quality of work or the cost estimate, but the fact that Allan stated that the prep work (e.g. cleaning) would be extensive and the work in total would take him half a day. In now completing his work within half an hour, his hourly rate equivalent charged to us was $850 ($575-$150 in materials, converted to an hourly rate). Absolutely ridiculous. We were misled and Allan was not forthcoming that the cost would only end up including half an hour's worth of labor. Very deceitful.
