My daughter attended Bethany Lutheran School, a private Christian school located on Arbor and Clark in Long Beach from 5th to 8th Grade. Our experience was wonderful with small classrooms, individualized attention, highly qualified staff, excellent curriculum and a warm and welcoming environment. She participated in choir, went on several field trips including science field trips to Catalina Island and Idyllwild, CA. We also used the schools extended day care from time to time (after school care and homework club for working parents) and summer camps. The years at this school helped prepare my daughter academically for her high school years.

In my 2 years at the school my experience here was extremely stressful. The teachers and principal are old and not up to date with educational rigor. The idea of students having iPads is a great concept but many teachers use it as a tool so they no longer have to teach the concepts. My son left after 3rd grade and it was the best decision I could have made. The teacher would email daily to a point that it felt like harassment. There is no comprehensive discipline plan and the principal incorporated no viable school-wide strategies. Look elsewhere for a school that actually cares about students instead of throwing a device in their face.

At first glance and beginning of enrollment this establishment seems to be fantastic..on top of the enrollment costs you are constantly asked for donations, occasionally it is understandable but not on a biweekly or so basis, I was also confused when they last October celebrated October fest where they were serving alcohol on church grounds..it didn't seem very family friendly. But my biggest concern is the pressure that they put on the children especially those in kindergarten, the students are expected to behave on an almost impossible adult like level and if not they are constantly criticized creating an uncomfortable environment and unfortunately a dislike for school. I feel very concerned as children should from an early age learn a love for knowledge and education and kindergarten is a critical time for that, one kindergarten teacher was yelling at the students one afternoon as I approached after school for pick up, unfortunately after asking my child I learned that it is a frequent occurrence so it didn't take long to decide that we will not be bringing her back to this school next year.

I absolutely love the teachers at Bethany Lutheran.  From her Kindergarten teacher to all the other staff, which are amazing to include the PE, music teachers, librarians (too many to list).  I am very truly grateful my child comes here. This is a very special Christian school.  If you are looking for a private school for your child, stop looking.  This is the best there is.

This is the first year my 4 year old and 5 year attend Bethany Lutheran and it has been a blessing to have found such a great, caring, loving Jesus school.  My kids come home singing songs they have learned with their awesome teachers. They have learned so much here.  They love going to chapel every Tuesday morning with their classmates.  They say grace now and have learned new table manners.  I love how the school keeps you informed of every single thing.  My kids love coming here and all the teachers really care about all of the kids, you can really tell.  I love this school!
