A few years ago, 2017 Mr. Robert Hagg P.E. drew the church plans for a new family center, a 75ft x 90ft. standard square building with 10ft eve height. During construction as the roof was being decked and shingles were being put on the roof, with other contractors working inside and on top of the building, the building collapsed and it brought down 95% of the structure, praise God no one was seriously hurt. After years or trying to figure out who's fought it was, by structural engineers and their investigation by all insurance parties involved, it was determined in court that He Robert hagg PE of Lakeland Fl was responsible because of a building code violation along with the truss installer company who we hired, who had Liability insurance and he followed the plans and instruction who Polk county stamped and approved, and In the end as we all went to court to settle with their insurances companies, it was at that time (in court) it was revealed that Robert Hagg did not have liability insurance. He is a structural engineer. In any case we made sure everyone had lability insurance, but we never ask for the Structural engineer liability insurance, just assuming he had it, that's where I/WE made our mistake. We just assumed (because of his title operating in Polk County and the years he has been in business since 1977 drawing plans for Holmes and Commercial Properties, I believed that he had liability insurance because he is a Structural Engineer. I missed up and it cost our church tremendously. Our great county, Polk County who approves plans and drawing you would think they too would not allow structural engineer to practice designing building that they must approve without liability insurance, I've been told that the state of Florida doesn't require Structural Engineers to have liability insurance maybe that's why. It's been 4 years now since all that took place but the pain and debt and loss of congregation that the church accrued should have never happened. Please, if you use Mr. hagg, or any of the draftsmen in POLK county who us MR, HAGG TO DRAW AND OR APPROVES AND PUT HIS STAMPED SEAL ON THE ENGINEERED DRAWING THAT GO TO THE COUNTY FOR APPROVALE get a copy of his liability insurance DONT BE LIKE ME AND JUST ASSUME HE HAS IT as WELL with all BUILDING contractors.
