During the past few months, we've been slowly getting ready to move, again, but this time, we're going into our new home. We kept some of our furniture from our original home because we had them custom-made and I'll admit to being too sentimental. However, there were pieces that we've "donated" to my husband's nephew and niece because they were too large to fit into our downsized apartment. We have gone furniture shopping to get some smaller pieces for our living and dining room but I got the "bright idea" to replace upholstery and re-configure our dining room chairs. I remembered that we had used M. Magdaleno's many years ago to reconfigure and re-upholster a loveseat but that was when they were located on Auahi Street, now SALT at Our Kaka'ako fills the space. So, thanks to Yelp, I found Magdaleno's who had relocated to Kalihi. Shortly before Christmas, we took in 4 dining room chairs and 2 counter high stools for a work quote, select fabrics and leave a deposit. His workshop was jam packed with other jobs from other customers. Being that the Christmas Holiday was upcoming, we understood that the postal service would be overtaxed so we told Martine to hold onto our furniture but go ahead with the fabric orders. We weren't in a rush to have it done but, we had just received our move-in schedule for late January 2017. According to Martn, it took about a week for our fabric to arrive and he estimated that it would take him just a few days to re-upholster our chairs. We waited until January 9th to request status of our project. Martn confirmed that he had just completed 2 chairs that morning and everything would be completed by Wednesday. He invited us to come down to take a look or we could just wait until all was completed to pick them up. We couldn't help ourselves and went down on that day to check it out. The workmanship is fabulous and our vision to reconfigure the high-backed dining room chairs made a World of difference. It turned out that the price for the fabric and expert craftsmanship on 4 dining room chairs and 2 stools cost us slightly less than 2 of our chairs when bought new. I highly recommend M. Magdaleno's for upholstery needs.... just a warning, his workshop is in an industrial area and there is limited parking (there are a few stalls in front of his workshop). Also, he has a van but I don't know if he picks up and/or delivers the furniture projects because we brought ours in. I strongly believe that he does pick up and deliver, though.
