So I had an engine light come on my 2018 dodge charger. After looking at the code it determined that my coolant thermostat was faulty and needed replacing. After replacing the coolant thermostat myself it was still overheating so I decided to take it to honest-1 auto to get it checked out. They had told me that there was an air bubble in the coolant because I didn't vacuum seal the coolant. So they went and flushed all the coolant and using a vacuum sealer, added new coolant. They then did a block test and determined it was still overheating due to a cracked/blown head gasket, and wanted to charge me $3800-$4200. I said I'm gonna think about it and eventually called them back and asked if they would take my warranty. They then said that they could try, informed me that they were two weeks behind and asked me to email them the warranty information. After that, I decided to go with a carmax certified mechanic that would honor the warranty, which was big brand tires and service. Big brand not only honored my warranty but said to me that there was nothing wrong with the head gaskets, that even if there was a cracked head gasket, that the protocol is not to just repair it for $4000, but to replace the entire engine at that point. When the head gasket is cracked and leaking, you can repair the crack amd stop the leaking, but that doesnt take into consideration the damage that is done to the rest of the engine. At that point big brand informed me that it was a water line, water line gasket, as well as a replacement of the coolant thermostat I had previously installed. When I went to "Honest-1 Auto Care" with the need of help and concern for my vehicle, they willingly smiled and wanted to take advantage of that need for help with a $3800-$4200 bill for a repair that wasn't necessary. The total amount I spent at big brand service was $311.23. That is the deductible and the cost of coolant replacement. Side note, which is not really an issue of honest-1 that I had, was they charged me $260 and change for the vacuum sealed new coolant. Please don't go here. In my opinion, they aren't the mechanic you can trust, but just like the rest that try to nickle and dime you.
