I went to First A.M.E Church a very long time ago back in 2013 to 2014. I left due to the military moving me and my family. But, I thank GOD for blessing me to be able to find and fellowship with the wonderful congregation and minister at this place of worship. This is a great church to go to if you are up in Fairbanks, AK. God bless First A.M.E Church.

Sometimes you find a church, and sometimes a church finds you. It has been difficult for me to find a place to feel a connection, not just with God, but with people in general. I've been really pursuing a search for a higher meaning and ways I can contribute to the world in a positive way. What I guess is paramount to me in any relationship, would be honesty. I've bounced around to quite a few churches over my adult life, searching for one that "fit." Most have been "meh." Some have made me think a bit. Most all have felt inauthentic or phony: ie, disingenuous. "Hi welcome, here is the offering plate" or, one, "ohh this must be your wife, HIIII!" I honestly don't know how I found or was drawn to First AME Church. It just happened last week. I didn't even know what "AME" was, (African Methodist Episcopal Church) I had a lot of mixed feelings about going, (being a white man) so I emailed ahead of time to ask if my presence would be maybe disrespectful or anything. First great sign, they answered! They assured me I would be welcome and it would be fine. Today I was still very nervous about going. (All brought on by my own thoughts) I luckily met a couple outside who showed me the way inside. (I parked in back and went in the back down the ramp) I sat at a pew and was greeted by Brother Al and listened to the band warm up. (The band is fantastically talented!) (loved the guitar (great tone) drums, bass, piano & bonus horn solo) Then Pastor Darrell came over to introduce himself and he had the most genuine energy. Things kicked off with song and praise and I was at ease. It will sound cliche to say it felt like "home," but I was in my place. It was honest. It was refreshing. I felt love and happiness in that church today. Normally I don't even like doing the "shake hands with your neighbors" thing, but that wasn't even a thing! Nothing was forced! At the end of the great service, I WANTED to walk around and get to know people! I felt really welcomed and accepted. I enjoyed the "ease" of it all, the naturalness, the welcoming vibe by everyone, the way it was interactive, we were there as a group, actively participating. In a genuine way. I liked the message. I thought about it long afterwards. I am so thankful to have landed at First AME Church. I will be returning next week.
