Des Moines Masonic Cemetery

Would be a negative five if it would let me. The Masonic cemetery is degrading of all cemeteries. WEEDS, not mowed. I hate to admit to people that's where family is. You look across street at Glendale and its pretty. If masons are so great then why aren't you taking care of your cemetery. Sorry but its true.

I go to the graves of my mother and son Weekly to take care of it and when I go there on Mothers Day this is what it looks like. Its a mess. These people do not care. They are inflexible and you cant talk to anyone in charge to voice your concerns. They Board members are not available to speak to customers. Im so over it. DO YOUR JOB!!!

My recently deceased father was a Des Moines mason for over 50 years. I recently visited his cremation site and the man who was string trimming had put his gas can and other tools on top of his stone. He came over and apologized. When I was ready to leave , he had placed his stuff on someone else's stone. I went and very nicely told him I thought that was very disrespectful of the dead. He said he did that so the gas wouldn't kill the grass. I would MUCH rather see dead grass! I might add my dad's stone is only 6-8 feet from the street. Please stop being disrespectful!!

I recently suffered the very tragic loss of my son and was working with Megan to arrange for a burial service. She was helpful, accommodating and supportive. I made the mistake of meeting with Karen to finalize the arrangements. Karen was so horrific that I ended up leaving the meeting. She clearly doesn't know who her customers are (grieving family members) and she was unhelpful and just a horrible person. I spoke with others who have had similar experiences with Karen. If I didn't already have a family memorial at this cemetery I would go elsewhere because of Karen, but I will work around her and make my arrangements. TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES: REALLY? And the cemetery is kind of a dump. Clean it up. Plant some more trees. COME ON!!!

This cemetery is a mess. The lawn is rarely mowed especially in the older areas. They fail to edge around the graves. The stones that are flat on the ground (typically military stones) are grown over and in some cases totally obscured. The roads are full of pot holes and weeds line the curbs there is not even a push to spruce it up for Memorial Day and Labor Day. Any care at all needs to be done by the family. It is so sad to see. I have spoken to people many times with no improvement.
