Ive lived here two years now and just renewed my lease for a third year. Things have gotten much better here recently since the apartment complex got a new management company. They are doing a lot of work to fix things that werent being maintained well before. And the office staff, like Tiffany, and the maintenance staff are absolutely wonderful! The neighborhood sits between a middle school and high school and feels very safe. I definitely like living here.

STAY AWAY. I moved here from Ohio a year ago and as soon as I moved in I was getting small bites. I thought they must be spider bites, but months later, I found out my apartment had a full-blown flea infestation. I have no pets. I believe the carpet was already infested when I moved in as the place was not clean on move-in. When asked if I could have accommodations or help for a hotel while my unit was being treated and the flea infestation was still ongoing, they said no. I had to spend hundreds on hotels. When the end of my lease came up at the end of February, I had not been notified at all about renewal options. I read my lease, which stated that if I didn't sign a renewal, it would automatically go month-to-month. I decided that was a good option as I wanted to look for somewhere else to live. I paid my March rent as usual, and then a week later, I received a door mailer saying I owed $300. When I went to the office to inquire, I was informed that this was a recurring month-to-month premium. I was also informed that if I wanted to renew my lease for a year, there would be a price hike. When I said I had not been notified, showing my lease as documentation of the information I had, I was berated by the new property manager. She grabbed the lease out of my hands, telling me it was in there and that she would find it. Well, it wasn't in there, and she didn't find it, but she continued to yell at me that it was my responsibility as a tenant to know the policy since it's like that everywhere. Her combative and defensive demeanor did not change, so much so that I started crying in her office. When I asked if I could speak to someone higher up, she said no. Eventually, I got a hold of the Regional manager, who listened but insisted that I was dealt with directly, but professionally. Since I was supposed to be informed of my renewal options 60 days prior to my lease ending and was not, I gave my notice and asked for the extra $300 month-to-month charge to be waived for those 60 days (March and April). The Regional manager refused to waive it for April. These companies are only about making money, and this one is especially terrible towards their tenants. Not only that, but the apartments themselves are built with the cheapest materials, have roaches, and the lights are all fluorescent, so if you don't want to feel like you're in a hospital, you have to buy your own lighting. Do not live somewhere where the quality is poor, the people will treat you badly, and where your rent will go up every year based on "market value," while no improvements will be made to your actual living space. I'm counting down the days until I can leave. There are nicer places in the area with better management.

If you can try to stay away. They always find ways to make you pay extra. The people in the office keep changing almost every other month. The people there now are the worst the worst customer service ever. They hardly pick up the phone and when they do they talk to you badly.

This 5 star is for Deonna Wren. I have been living at the Villages of Chapel for 8 years and I have to say that Deonna Wren is by far one of the best Assistant Managers that have worked here at the Villages. Deonna really cares and go above and beyond to help the tenants. She will call you back, follow up and will get on the cart and stop by your apartment to make sure you are good. She will do everything to make sure your maintenance is taken care and work with the tenant to resolve any payment issues. I hope she continue to stay with the Villages of Chapel Hill.
