The conservation of the Saola is important to me because we need to be able to keep as many species around as possible and undo the harm humans have done to their habitats and numbers. The Saola Foundation is doing some really good field work for the Saola, but I also think they will be able to benefit other species along the way. I think that they will, within time, be able to help figure out the Saolas ranges, diet, breeding, and behaviors. Everyone that works and volunteers for this organization supports the mission of trying to find the Saola very well, and they are doing great outreach and talks to communicate what they are up to. They will be able to get the word out. I think they are going to put together a fantastic team for the next stage of fieldwork, and this will be beneficial to exponentially increasing and protecting the Saola. They will likely be able to save Saola from extinction and establish a breeding program to reestablish the species in time.

This foundation is doing some great work to save the Saola. They've been working toward ever increasing efforts to find the Saola in the Annamite Mountains that stretch through the Laos/Vietnam region. This recently discovered species (only known to the western world since 1992), really reminds me of the forest spirit in Princess Mononoke! They are so beautiful, and also very elusive. Also, I think it's cool that so many unique species live in the Annamite mountains and that they are going to help all the species they can. I'm really excited to see what happens in the next few years as they put together their tracking team and groups of specialists. I hope they can save the Saola and the other species in danger in the Annamites!
