Ive taken the lengthy continuum courses and the shade-tree mechanic weekend courses on implants. They are certainly helpful to start you on your implantology journey, but there is no substitute for the hands-on surgical training gained at the IMPLANT SUCCESS TODAY event offered by Dr. Leo Malin in the Dominican Republic. Before you arrive, you are screened for your level of experience, so they can triage patients to meet your clinical goals. Upon arrival, you begin with 5-6 hours of didactic review of technique and materials on Sunday. Then, on Monday you head to the clinic and actually place implants on patients for four incredible days. The beauty of the course is that you are chaperoned closely by Dr. Malinan individual who doesnt just talk about placing implants; he has actually placed THOUSANDS of implants and continues to this day to practice in the field of implantology, giving him impressive credibility in terms of his knowledge, skill set and experience. Dr. Malin is an excellent communicator. Further, I was so impressed by his ability to conquer each and every clinical obstacle to proceed with successfully and skillfully placing an appropriate implant for the case at hand. Finally, his approach to training is FREE OF NEGATIVITY OR CRITICISM when the student would make a mistake. He is judgement-free and uses the situation as a learning event to foster your skill set and journey toward mastery of the discipline of implantology. I highly recommend this surgically-intensive course as a means to rapidly help you gain confidence in your ability to expertly place implants with the ultimate goal of successfully restoring form, function and esthetics for your patients, and I promise that you will return to your office on Monday with confidence and ready to place implants skillfully. I attended the first course in the Implant Logistics continuum (never having looked at an implant surgical kit) because it was local, and I was hoping to get a handle on the very basics of the surgical aspect of implant dentistry. My goal after attending the course was to be able to feel comfortable predictably placing single site posterior implants; I concluded that as a general dentist that would probably be my ceiling. The Implant Logistics intro course wholly exceeded my expectations, and I left feeling confident that I can easily and PREDICTABLY incorporate implant dentistry into my practice for all sextants of the mouth when following basic protocols that apply to any implant system. The most valuable aspect of the course was learning from Dr. Malins wealth of knowledge regarding managing patient expectations, and knowing what not to do to avoid common pitfalls that steer practitioners away from implant dentistry. This is the only implant course I have taken thus far, and Im very glad that it was my first. I look forward to scheduling my first case and helping my rural practice grow.
