In April of 2022, there was a hail storm that effected many properties in our neighborhood. We didn't think much about it until someone came to our door and mentioned that our neighbor had hail damage and they offered to look at our roof. While we didn't take him up on his offer, we noticed more and more neighbors having their roofs looked at. So we checked around for the best roofers in the area and had a few come out. Both said we also had hail damage like our neighbors, and we shouldn't have a hard time getting it replaced through our insurance. Little did we know it would be over a year of struggle and frustration with Allstate. We called our local Allstate agent, Tim Vanden Heuvel, and let him know we'd like to start a hail claim. We was taken aback by his response! He let out a big sigh and said "Just because some storm chasers come through your neighborhood doesn't mean you're getting a free roof". This is our insurance agent talking to us like this. The guy that is supposed to work for us and look out for us. We informed him that several companies, all local, have told us that there was damage and we would like to open a claim. He took the information and ended with "Just so you know, your insurance premium will probably go up if you file this". This wasn't stated as someone who cared for our best interest. It sounded more like a threat. Allstate sent over an appraiser and later we received a call from Allstate saying that we did NOT have hail damage. He saif we have 'blistering'. (That's where air is trapped under the shingles, that air expands when hot, and the tar bubble pops sending granules flying.) We quickly googled pictures of roof blistering, and that is not what our roof pictures looked like. In our pictures you could actually see the indentations from the hail. I told him this, and I was told I was incorrect. But good news! They would cover the soft metal on the roof where you could see the hail damage. Wait... so the metal had hail damage, but the roof didn't?!? They awarded us $1,200 to have the soft metal replaced. Well, our deductible is $2,500. We completely disagreed and we were told that we could dispute it. The next time an Allstate appraiser came to look at the roof, we had a local roofer waiting for him and they both looked at it together. They both agreed that it was hail damage. Later we received a call from Allstate and were told that they were not going to change their decision. When we said that their appraiser also thought it was hail damage... we were told that was his opinion, but he was hired to gather data only. So this guy sitting at a desk looking at pictures, knows more than a roofing expert there on the scene that THEY hired? We hung up feeling frustrated and helpless. We ended up filing a claim with the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance. Within days Allstate called telling us that we could have appealed the decision... that we didn't have to file a complaint with the state. Guess they should have told us that in the multiple calls we had with them! We appealed their decision, and then had to pay $3,000 to hire an appraiser. We found Mike Zegers from Zegers Enterprises. He was extremely knowledgeable and walked us through the rest of the process. Finally, we felt like someone was listening to us and looking out for our best interest! He met with Allstate's appraiser, and both agreed there was hail damage. We finally have a new roof after going in circles and a year of frustration. So much for being in 'good hands'. We will miss Tim's wife, Annette, as she's always been great to work with. But we are off to find a company that will work for us, not fight with us.

You know for paying full coverage for sure don't do a lot for You when getting into an accident. When someone hits you you'd think that dealing with insurance would be their specialty but nope. When someone hits you, you get to deal with that all by yourself with no help. Even though they say oh well help you negotiate this. So just be careful when shopping for car insurance we'll be looking for something else come August.... Sorry my wife Sara Blosser is your customer not me... So I'd be happy to let her leave a review as well. And instead of calling you which I was going to. I'm not going to fight with you. There's nothing that can be done now we've already received the settlement and handed everything on our own. So have a nice day
