Driving the Cascades Highway, we were looking for something local, no chain, something with personality. The Sun Mountain Lodge was a great find. It was bigger and more resorty than we like but we were only staying for one night and the views were amazing. Ii was a good stay, good food, met interesting people, comfy room, and those views. It does appear to be a very popular wedding venue and that does make it a bit busy and loud at times. And, if you expect to get some work done while you are there, know the wifi is just not cut out for that. However, if you are looking for a place that has lots to do and things for the kids, you will love it. Bonus: Floyd the stuffed bison in the lobby has my new motto on his sign Im old and fragile. Dont touch or climb on me. Made me laugh! #oneplanetoneyear Note: Staff was not particularly friendly the Saturday night we arrived - but I think they were just so busy with the weddings, etc. they did eventually warm up. Checkout Sunday morning was much nicer.

very dog UNfriendly. entire hotel does not allow dogs at all. Also the outdoor trails are No Dogs!! these trails are not city park trails....they are in the forest owned by this hotel and they don't allow dogs on their trails. period. also the city of Winthrop has many county owned trails that ban dogs. it's crazy!! This is not Seattle!! this is the forest!!.....and they actually have No Dogs sign at dirt trails leading into the forest. this place is weird. don't come with your dog. you will be disappointed.

have been to the Sun Mountain Lodge multiple times (5 or 6) and always bring family from abroad. I love it here because I can count on beautiful views, great food, and service. I have always enjoyed my stay, and the food and service were excellent. Not this time. Unfortunately, the service and the food quality fell far below my expectations, resulting in a subpar experience. To begin with, the service at this establishment could have been better. The staff seemed disinterested and needed more attentiveness. When we checked in at the bar, I asked for an accessible table because one of my family members could not walk on the stairs. The waitress said of course and proceeded to take us down the stairs, which was surprising after I had just asked for an accessible table. We ended up sitting on the bar stools because there was not a table for four that was accessible - that also took a hit in the dining experience for us. It took an incredibly long time for someone to acknowledge our presence and take our orders after we were shown to our table. Once a waitress came, I heard, "I guess I will be your waitress tonight," which did not make us feel welcome at all. Moreover, the most disheartening aspect of the visit was the food quality. Two burgers were cold in the middle, with cheese/sauce not adequately melted, and the fries were on the cold side. It was evident that the food had been sitting for an extended period before being served, resulting in a noticeable decline in taste and texture. The mac n cheese was delicious and hot. The table beside us complained about a plastic wrap they found in their food. I visited the Sun Mountain Lodge last year, and the experience was different. The front desk staff was much nicer, the bar staff was quick and attentive, and the food was delicious. I hope the management takes note of these concerns and works towards improving service and food quality because it wasn't just my party that had a similar experience. It is crucial for any establishment to prioritize customer satisfaction and deliver an enjoyable dining experience. I want to be back, but I am scared to get disappointed again. I love this place and would have hated to scratch it from my "go-to's."
