Marcus, I am sorry you were not selected as a final candidate and are frustrated with our decision to not have you move forward with a second interview. We requested typing tests, basic computer skills test, using email, internet basics. Marcus did not possess a home computer and had the inconvenience of choosing to go to the public library to take the tests. Unfortunately, it ended up taking much longer than we would have liked and also was frustrating for Marcus. During his initial visit to the library he only did the typing tests and didn't do the computer tests. It took him another trip to go back and do the computer tests of which he passed two of the four tests. We did communicate with Marcus that we were interviewing other individuals and were not ready to make a decision yet. This was for an an executive level position of which we had several candidates requiring us to be very selective. Our process is to do a first interview, which Marcus completed, then we check references, followed by a second interview and then make our final decision. We were in the midst of first interviews and checking references when Marcus called our office demanding an answer on if he was hired or not. Being forced to make a decision and the harshness of his demand, we declined to have him join our team. Reflecting on what happened, in the future we will provide feedback to candidates on a weekly basis and let them know the status of the hiring process. We will also better communicate an expected timeline for the hiring process. Most of our team have been with us for more than 5 years and we are very selective and looking for the right fit who will be with us for the long haul. Timeline: Marcus applied 10/27, interviewed 11/9, sent typing test 11/14 which were not complete and then sent computer tests on 11/16. The following week was Thanksgiving week and we had additional interviews set up for December. Marcus called on 12/8 demanding to know if he was hired or not. We can see how he would feel it was too long for a choice to be made since he interviewed 11/9 and it was a month later. However after he provided his tests on Thursday evening before we were gone for Thanksgiving week, we only had 2 weeks of work prior to his demanding call. Our team had communicated with him that we were interviewing and had not made a selection yet. I hope this helps put the situation in perspective. We will make changes moving forward to avoid such frustrations.
