As much as it pains me to do this, I have now lowered my rating from a 5 star to a 1 star. Karen completely started ignoring me back in November of 2022. She continued charging me for services that she was not doing, and I've now gotten a new CPA who has discovered MANY errors that she has done. I've tried and tried to get previous records of my taxes and forms that I've signed with her so my CPA could pick up where she left off, but have gotten ZERO communication from her. I honestly don't know if she passed away, has been arrested or what. This was so out of character for her. She spent time in my home, with my family. I felt like she was more of a friend than just someone helping me do accounting and taxes.

Terrible communication. I'm not sure if they have just taken on too many clients, or are simply dealing with other internal issues but service has fallen to unacceptable levels. We have reached out weekly on a return which was supposed to be filed (after they already asked for an extension) and was never filed. No return calls or emails. Infuriating.

I've been working with Karen/STAC Accounting for 5 years and recommend her/them to everyone. She takes the time to fully understand what I want before trying to give me solutions. Recently, they've moved to a document upload/capture software that has made both uploading and completing my part of the taxes so easy and straightforward.

I have had direct experience with STAC Accounting over 2021 and 2022. The experience of late has been downright incompetent and unprofessional on so many levels. I have rightly fired STAC Accounting and am paying to have another firm amend my returns to fix multiple errors. I would not recommend STAC Accounting to anyone. In fact, I think it would be best if they closed down. STAC Accounting has been so mismanaged that as of August 8th, they sent out an email stating that they still had not yet finished filing all of the 2021 returns of their clients. I had urgent tax documents they prepared and submitted, rejected by the IRS, and they did not even response to calls and emails about this for weeks. After my tax deadlines blew past without them filling, they didnt even get to filing them for months. (After promising much sooner.) When mentioned that they said it would be sooner, they get defensive and use COVID as an excuse. They take no responsibility for their mistakes. If you bring it up with them, they will give COVID as an excuse, but I believe that their employees quit and walked out on them because of the incompetent executive action of their management. They do not know how to run a business. I would have reported STAC Accounting to the Oregon Board of Tax Practitioners (or corresponding Washington State authorities) except that STAC accounting doesnt have any CPAs on staff, and the Board only licenses and reviews the actions of CPAs. (Not EAs.) A CPA is a higher qualification, and I regret trying to save a few dollars with this firm. It was not worth it in the end. Initially in my accountant selection, I interviewed several accountants. The first two informed me how I should get certain forms filed right away to avoid problems down the road. STAC Accounting told me not to work about that. Said forms could be submitted later. When it came time to file those forms, STAC Accounting prepared them improperly resulting in rejection by the IRS. Now over a year later from when I originally requested submission, I am still working another firm, and the IRS directly, to fix the fallout from this mess. There were complications setting up my books too. STAC Accounting did not know which types of employment taxes were applicable to my firms situation, and I had to do that research on my own, and then pay them to help me sort out how that impacted my books and payroll. Worse of all, when it came time for taxes due, STAC Accounting managed not only to fail to file on time, but also failed to file all of the required extensions. I was charged penalties by tax authorities and as of the time of writing, STAC Accounting has not reimbursed me a penny for this. (They did however, delivered plenty of lip service.) At this point, they dont answer phone calls or return messages which I see other clients are complaining about too.
