It's a black belt factory. Really, that's what it is when you see dozens of kids that are 9-10-11 years old who are black belts. Our son took classes there for 5 years. When we signed up our child, they locked us into a 2-year contract. For a 12-yr old. Parents of even younger kids were in the same situation. As I recall, they eventually cut the contracts down to a year, but how can you hold a 6-year-old to a contract? The answer is you don't. But their parents are on the hook for the monthly automatic withdrawal of $100-$200 whether the child wants to continue. There was a family whose husband lost his job (several years before Covid) and were living very hand to mouth on unemployment, and the owner wouldn't let them out of the contract. They were unable to pay their rent but Warhorse got its money. If you want your child to be a black belt quickly, they will achieve it at Warhorse-- but what does it mean? Very little. And if your child, like ours, is chosen to be hired as an assistant, plan on continuing to shell out that money because their employment at Warhorse doesn't even give them a discount on classes. In fact, they will be expected to take all the advanced classes (those are "free") while you continue to pay what you've been paying for years. And they treat their employees like trash--even the most dedicated, loyal instructors. Also, The owner has a lot of strong feelings =about how kids should be parented that he shares freely, but has no children of his own. I don't know what their situation has been since Covid, but when people ask me if I know a good place for kids for karate I tell them anyplace but Warhorse. Side note: their adult JiuJitsu program was fantastic and NOT run the way Karate is, in large part due to Mr. Grey. In jiujitsu, they work very hard for each belt level with legitimate skills learned and constantly used.

My face to face conversation with the teacher the other day was enjoyable and I like the environment Warhorse seems to display. Unfortunately some of the parents of the younger karate class were uncomfortable when a white man walked by and I got the sense I'm not welcome in the area. The adult jiu jitsu program that is the same day as the children's program seems interesting and you absolutely will learn from their teacher in either class. Personally I can't take the judgemental stares from other adults but YMMV. There's gotta be a more welcoming environment for men looking to learn similar skills in this area

My children were part of the Warhorse dojo while we were stationed in Washington. It's been 5 years and they still talk about it. The instructors were patient and skilled, and they all had great personalities. It was awesome seeing my kids get really into it.

Our family has nothing but good things to say about Warhorse. Very responsive to our questions, excellent with the kids. My son can have a hard time with focus and listening so I was concerned about signing him up but they promised me it would be fine and they were right. They are able to keep his focus and he listens to them. Quality instructors that know what they are doing. My son loves the class and is always learning new things.
