Sara is not only an expert in Collaborative Law, but she is extremely easy to talk to in what can be a very challenging time of life when families are considering (or going through) a divorce. Sara's approach keeps children at the forefront of all discussions and the divorce outcome, encouraging both parties to work together as "Co-Parents" for a "winning outcome" for the whole family. Sara is very connected in the local divorce and mediation community in WA, helping connect me with "parent coach mediators" (resources) and "divorce certified financial planners" that helped keep the costs of a divorce down significantly, while also helping keep all parties feeling invested/heard in the overall process. Sara met with us initially and recommended mediation vs a collaborative divorce process. She pointed us to a very skillful mediator, Teresa Sisk, who handled our mediation in a most professional and effective means. We then returned to Sara for filing which she completed in less than a week. Its never a straight line to the end, but if you and your spouse can play the long game and not let the skirmishes prevent you from amicably completing the process, Sara is the best.

I am an estate planning attorney and have done updated estate plans for several clients who had just completed their divorces using Sara Wahl's services. They have been uniformly glowing in their reports of working with her. They have all come to me with both a really clear understanding of what they have financially coming out of the process and what that means for their long term security. They have also often come with a good enough working relationship with their ex-spouse to be able to work cooperatively with them as co-parents to make joint decisions about ultimate guardians and trusts for their kids. Sara was so helpful to me as my husband and I went through our divorce. He was adamantly opposed to retaining legal counsel of any kind, but I felt strongly that I needed professional guidance. Sara offered the perfect compromise, starting with a 1-hour consultation with me in which she explained all the steps involved in the process of divorce, as well as principles of collaborative law, to which she is strongly committed. (She does not do divorce litigation at all, though she recognizes it is sometimes appropriate, and can refer you to good attorneys who do.) She referred us to Teresa Sisk, a financially trained mediator with whom my husband and I were both comfortable, and over the course of several months we did do much of the work ourselves, including selling our house and splitting the proceeds. Sara was patient and gracious, and offered helpful advice as questions arose throughout the process. When the date of our hearing approached, I met with her once more to review the paperwork, which she very helpfully cleaned up, and made some important corrections to (corrections which, if they had not been made, would have meant our divorce being denied at the hearing!). I so appreciated her calm but firm demeanor, her flexibility in meeting our needs, and the sense she gave me that in her I had an ally. Divorcing was so stressful and emotional. Sara gave me the knowledge and support I needed to get through it happy and whole. And now ... I'm on the other side! On to the next chapter!
