LOOK NO MORE....This contractor does excellent work. They were neat, cleaned up any mess, did everything by the book.  I am a fussy woman and I am telling you this job was very good.  The workers were proffesional and all questions or concerns are answered and or addressed.  They took down a 3 flat porch system and repalced all with top grade materials and it was all inspected by the city and gave it a stamped of   approval. And the girl that you speak with on the phone is always ready to answer all questions and calls back if needed. She is an asset to the company.Stop going crazy and hire them and relax. Doris McCarthy

I very sincerely dislike ever leaving a negative review, but this time I have to. Over three years ago my (now ex)partner started building his dream home with the help of Estes in the Kingston area. Turned out to be more of a nightmare, as it took forever to complete, not only because of permits but because of delays on the part of Estes. Their contractors and subcontractors were almost universally late and or unaccountable for the mistakes they made. And yes, these supposed professionals made many mistakes. Even though we are no longer together, it has pained me to watch my ex go through over three years of arguments, changes, hassles... It's been way more difficult than it needed to be. It's a cute house but there are still several problems, and he has had to spend over $10,000 fixing things that they either refused to fix or installed incorrectly. I feel badly about the whole thing as he had such high hopes for his place. And like I said, I hate to write a negative review but Estes was not responsive or helpful, and basically built a spec house for a custom price. Unfortunately I cannot recommend them.

We wanted to build a retirement home that accommodated our current activity level, and will still remain livable as we age. The biggest "hook" for us in selecting Estes was that complete architectural services were included in the package, and indeed, they have a staff architect. Our home is truly custom and their design process accommodated every "must have" as well as a pleasing number of "would like to haves." Also, their project website was an ideal vehicle for two-way communication and documenting decisions. Once we selected a target price/sq. ft., Estes completely respected our budget. There were numerous moments during the design process, where we'd want to do or change something, and our consultant would either suggest it was "no problem, it's within the budget," or suggest a lower cost alternative that still met our objectives. We were always listened to AND respected. On completing the design process, another advantage of working with Estes became apparent; our building permit was approved by Kitsap county in 30 days. This showed us delivered exactly what the county expected the first time and that Estes knew their business. The construction process was clearly explained, and the weekly (or sometimes more frequent) personal updates by phone or e-mail kept us fully informed. There were a few changes along the way suggested by us or Estes, and they were all handled quickly and at no or a cost basis. Quite a difference from friends who also built custom or semi-custom homes who were constantly subject to additional costs. Estes took total "ownership" of any issues that arose (and there will always be issues in this kind of project), and always made us feel their objective was to deliver a home we would love for a lifetime. In this, they completely succeded. Our only significant issue was an unanticipated delay in completing our home. Even with this, Estes approached it as a learning experience for them and worked hard to minimize the impact. We're confident that with future clients, the stated delivery date will be met.
