If you love historic buildings this is your place! Most of the interior appears to be original to the building. We stayed in room 19 and loved the windows and kitchen! Things to be aware of: There is no elevator and the stairs to the third floor are no joke! It's not terrible if you are in fairly good shape, though, and I loved the old banister and the view as I climbed and descended the stairs. The walls are also pretty thin, so bring a fan or something to help mute any neighbors you may have close to your room. We had one neighbor who we never heard and another who we could clearly hear through the opposite wall. The fan helped a lot. The entire suite was very clean and the entire staff was very friendly. The location is terrific. As of this weekend, there isn't any air conditioning in the rooms, which isn't bad in the spring, but may be an issue in the summer. Again, a fan might help. I love this hotel and would definately be willing to stay again. My husband, who is a very practical kind of soul would not. The value of this as a historic building truly outweighed any minor discomforts. It also appeared that they will be doing some renovations soon, according to a small sign we saw, so some of those minor inconveniences may change this year. Rooms: Historic charm! Thin walls. Nearby activities: TONS within a 5 minute walk! A museum, a pub, a spa, ice cream parlor, candy shop, book stores, native art, and home goods store all nearby! Walkability: Parking along the building and 99% of what you might enjoy is right there, including the beach! The building backs up to a dock and beach.

Very important to remember that when staying in an old building, it is going to be old, so set your expectations accordingly like I did. Check in was very easy, the room itself was beautiful, and it's located right next to the main waterfront in town.

Great location and clean room with a nice, rustic interior. Overall very pleasant place, but slightly expensive for what it was.

Perfectly located historic hotel in downtown Port Townsend -- walk to everything! I've stayed in the past but noticed some improvements this visit. The double queen room my gal pal & I shared was large, comfortable, very clean and cozy ... the fireplace was on when we arrived and due to the chilly wet weather it stayed on the entire visit! Beds were very comfy. Mary at the front desk was kind & helpful. I can only say positive words about this hotel so long as you are happy with accommodations that are not brand new! Walkability: In the heart of downtown. No need to get in your car if you don't want to ... coffee, variety of food & shopping, art, movies, wine tasting, walks on the beach, whale watching, bike rentals ...all within blocks.

me and my 3 sisters stayed here for the presidents day weekend. great little town and the location of the hotel was perfect. however we will not stay here again. first of all when you enter the hotel off the street it is not even a lobby, it is a little area filled with native American items it was a store i guess, but definitely not a real hotel lobby and not inviting at all. No where to put your stuff or even sit a minute. we were in the "suite" in the back. it does have great water views but the back of the building was in need of a face lift and at night it is pitch black back. there did seem to be a small light but did not always come on. there is no designated place to park. you have to just park anywhere you can find. one night when we came back we circled 10 minutes and no spots were available. room was ok lots of space but the curtains were so dusty and dirty about 1/2 way up. it was a really tall window and up on the high ceiling was many many dark cob webs on both sides. the bathroom was ridiculous. shower and toilet but they had a pedestal sink. absolutely no counter to put anything at all and no other shelf or cabinet to put something on. kind of odd for a suite and there was room to have a counter. there was no other counter in the main room either. did have micro and mini fridge, table and chair but again everything had to be put on the table as it was the only surface in the entire room. the dresser and loveseat were very old and dinghy. only run by 1 women we asked about getting ice and when she took us upstairs there was non and we were told to go to Safeway! the ice machine was not even on. we got paper cups for the mini coffee pot. our room was more like a motel as you can not enter the hotel from this room. were told the front area closes at 6pm and doesn't open till 10am. so you couldn't get ice, coffee, towels or anything between those times. It really looks like they just slammed this room together with very minimal old used items to get it rented out. We are not even picky people but this is no way to run a business. no thing special about it at all. any being told to go buy your own ice was not very professional. but we will never stay here again after this stay. very strange operation. Walkability: It was a great location as you could walk all the way down one side of the street and back up the other and be back to your room.
