I have not used this business, so please take my review lightly. I am only reviewing , because I noticed he has zero reviews.... which seemed odd for someone in business for 20+ years.
I called Mr. Coulton , and he answered immediately, which is very positive. I posed a simple, direct question - "We are selling our house to a neighbor, can you do an appraisal just for that purpose? I realize it would not work for a bank loan. Also, how much would that cost?" "
He launched into a lengthy explanation of Washington Real Estate Appraisal laws, naming the year that were enacted, and the name of the law. Then he went on to say that he is not going to violate those laws, and he does not want to go to jail, etc etc. ?? That he has been in this business for long # of years, that he teaches , that his father was in this business since 1963.... on and on..... telling me lots of information that was irrelevant to the direct question. I tried to steer him back, by asking again, "Can you do this appraisal?" More of the same answer. In the end, I said, thank you and got off the phone .
He then texted me a colleague's number, which was fine. Then he shared my number with that colleague, without my permission------who then called me to offer her services. This was no ok, I appreciate her number, but I can call her if I wish to do so.
I suspect Mr Coulton knows the appraisal business quite well. However, I would not use him, because communication with him is not ideal. Again, this is based on a 12 min conversation, so take that lightly. But if someone had posted previously, i would have saved all of us some time.
