A morning ramble best suited for any age or ability (caveats in a moment.) We had tried to visit on a prior occasion but had the dog and while brilliant and adorable, they are not allowed on any of the property. If you have a smaller dog just be grateful because I think youd be fending off the raptors.Sans dog bring the kids or parents, partners, friends, or just yourself and start at the visitor center to make sure youve purchased the correct pass (we had America The Beautiful pass which was accepted.) Its always a winning proposition to get tips from the good folks behind the counter. We got advice about where to watch for beaver damns, otters, etcall with great directions. If you have a wheelchair or stroller or wagon or knee scooter youll be able to do the boardwalk loop but it connects to the big showstopper by gravel path which can be treacherous for any but wide tread wheels. We saw a wagon full of small kids being dragged by one. incredible. parent. I highly recommend planning to walk or roll the 4 miles if you can so that you dont miss the many many birds, Nisqually and puget sound vistas and all the creatures you can spot but the shorter, accessible loop was beautiful on its own. Binoculars popular but not necessary. Lots of avid bird watchers not shy about telling you exactly where to look along the way. A big shout out to the that seemed to be gulping and croaking and added to the lively soundtrack. Overall a very good day, lovely in the early summer, plan on returning when its rainy and cold to see the changes!
