I've seen Dr. Norsen for almost 10 years. He is very knowledgeable, kind and compassionate. I have a very complicated history with lots of medical problems and he always takes the time to understand what is going on and finds ways to help.

Before I went to see Dr. Norsen for the first time in 2008 I had a hard time finding a GP Doctor that I felt comfortable with and confident in, that changed when I saw him.  He takes the time to really listen to your health problems and discusses solutions, he is your partner in healthcare.  One time I went in because I thought I had wax build up in my ear as I could not hear well out of it.  He took a look, no build up and prescribed steroids because he thought it was something called Sudden Deafness and steroids will stop the loss if taken when the first symptoms appear.  He also made me go to a hearing specialist the next day.  They confirmed Dr. Norsen's diagnosis and the specialist said that if he had not put me on steroids immediately I would have had more hearing loss.  This is just one example how he has helped me over the years.  I live and work in Seattle, but drive into Bellevue to see him.  Great Doctor.

I am very new in Washington and needed a primary care Dr  In addition to needing to establish a primary care, I had a rather severe sinus infection and hip pain.  The hip pain is (I believe) to a chronic bone disorder I have.  I addressed the hip pain but left the appt without anything for the pain.  I even asked indirectly for something after explaining the highlights of my medical history.  Dr. Norsen was very adamant about wanting my medical records before he would do anything.  His treatment was successful re the sinus infection however, the hip pain has progressively worsened. I made a second appt and asked again for a pain medication, where upon he sated he normally does not do this with medical records but he would give a very limited supply of a medication until I saw a Pain Mgtm Spec.  I have an appt but not until mid March.  This pain is keeping me awake at night; so I called and asked again "please" and again was refused. I am feeling that this doctor has not heard anything that I have said and that he does not believe me.  Why would I fabricate such a thing?  I have (at 56) already had two knee replacements and one total reconstruction procedure that substantiates the bone disorder.  I am looking for another source to get relief from this pain until the appt with the Pain Mgmt Spec mid March.

I came down with the flu last week. After an alarming fever on Tuesday, I scheduled an appointment in the afternoon to see Dr. Norsen at Virginia Mason in Bellevue. When booking the appointment, I was asked to put on a facemask when I entered the office. Obviously this was for precautions against swine flu. I liked that they were careful to do this, although it looked weird as I was the only one in the lobby with one on.I get called in to the room and get my vitals checked. It has been a while since I have been here, so many of the things on file were old news which included a medication I had been prescribed that I stopped taking 2 years ago. My computer file was messed up with a test request for that of a female. This made me apprehensive somewhat. As for the appointment itself, it was okay but rather predictable to what I was expecting. Though the utterance of the phrase swine flu was not pleasant. I never did get a true diagnosis of what type of flu this was swine or not. Thus, there was no prescriptions to be prescribed, but rather the rest and fluids treatment. I would say three stars would be more appropriate, but I will push this to four as I agree with Dale with having a doctor that plays it safe. It looks like Virginia Mason seems to do that, though some things could be improved on. Like listing patient gender correctly.
